Okay, we broke out the trusty baguette and went to town with these tapenades! The goal was to evaluate the tapenades, not other toppings.We tried each of the four varieties and found them all good in their own right, but one dimensional. That is to say the caramelized onion tapenade only tasted like caramelized onions, with some added sweetness (sugar). It was good, but didn't have anything extra, like a peppercorn kick!The same went for the other types. The black olive tapenade was good and tasted like black olives, but nothing else. Where these tapenades will shine is on a charcuterie board where you can layer additional flavors over the tapenade to create a more complex flavor profile.While some will say that is how they are to be used, in my experience tapenades can stand on their own on a wafer or slice of bread or cheese and invite the eater to pick out each of the flavors present in the spread.At this price point and for the size of the jars, I would prefer more complexity in the flavors. As previously mentioned, they are solid flavors and will be eaten with other toppings, but I hoped for more.

I like the flavors, but as another reviewer aptly described, they are one dimensional. I dont notice layers of flavor, yet the flavor is pleasant enough. I tried everything on soft pita bread, including the "ketchup". Pretty good! 4 starsOily, so plan to stir. I never got to try the asparagus tapenade. This is not a matter of delivery(or even packing atAmazon). It is the company not providing enough secureMaterial to keep the jars from jostling. There is some bubbleWrap, but it is not fullyWrapped, nor taped up. Had it been fullyWrapped and taped, I imagine it would have been fine. If they can ensure secureWrapping, then I can recommend this as a decent product and as food themed gift.I dont rate on price. You decide what is worth it to you
