they are ok for kids not the best ever as by the price but you can modify them and sharpen them up.

Yes, however these are harder to learn with and use. I recommend getting a more quality pair or making your own (What I did is grabbed some 21 cent steel edging pins for lawns and gardens from lowes cut them in half and sharpened them, they are deadly accurate and can be thrown from a pretty far distance). I was not a fan of these throwing spikes they are poorly made.
