A classic if ever there was one
Having read the book, the movie's ending nearly ruins everything.

Two genius actors pulled off an all-time classic: George Peppard and Audrey Hepburn make a fantastic on screen couple.
Much has already been written about this famous movie. I wanted to find out more about Breakfast at Tiffany's because I was mainly interested in George Peppard's career before and after the A-Team. I went back in time and found out he'd been in Breakfast at Tiffany's as the lead male role. They made a documentary about the making of this film: Blake Edwards, the director, encountered many difficulties along the way. What can I say?In the end, Breakfast at Tiffany's is a standalone wonder; everything worked out for the best. "They" were reluctant having George Peppard. He and Audrey Hepburn had perfect chemistry on screen - no matter what happened or did not happen off screen (she didn't like him).Screenwriter George Axelrod wrote a subtle witty screenplay based on Truman Capote's ideas. The movie is fizzy like a bottle of champagne. All the supporting actors are brilliant; I especially love Ms. Wildwood from Arkansas and Mr. Yunioshi (Mickey Rooney is a comic genius in his caricature portrayal of Holly's long-suffering neighbor).Audrey Hepburn speaks with an English accent and impersonates a type of Parisian woman: she is European all the way, George Peppard American all the way.He is a Knight in Shining Armor, his sensitive style of acting conveys Paul Varjak's love for Holly all the better. George Peppard's acting never was 'arrogant' nor "one-dimensional". He does a lot of little things, his screen presence is studied: you have to look at him, stare at him and notice what he does (it's easier for me, I'm a woman :)).He and Audrey are perfect together, they work in perfect harmony. It's like the movie is just one long single take, everything fits: the music, the clothes, New York, the apartment, Cat, the clever lines, the cast, like a perfectly composed piece of music. Breakfast at Tiffany's is a 1960's fairy tale in which the girl understands slowly after trial and error that the right man - a kind of Prince Charming - had been standing right before her eyes all this time. This is not a traditional comedy because the film encapsulates many emotions like the death of her brother Fred and the way Holly reacts to it. The party at Holly's apartment is a set piece of its own.I find Audrey Hepburn's acting brilliant in the drunk scene from the moment they stand at the bottom of the stairs until she tells Paul to leave. She is phenomenal. You also notice the ballet-like synchronicity between George and Audrey when he carries her over his shoulder up to her apartment. Can you imagine the actors who were first-choice in this situation? Slim and nervy Steve McQueen carrying Marilyn Monroe like this up a couple of stairs?Worth noticing: at the dime store where they stole the masks, the music is suddenly not related to 'Moon River' but I can hear the tempo of the later to come 'Pink Panther' by the same Blake Edwards.Breakfast at Tiffany's is a movie in its own league: multi-layered like a piece of classical music yet deceptively easy. It's a bittersweet romance that ends well with some darker moments. The movie became iconic thanks to Audrey Hepburn and her elegance: nevertheless for those who might have noticed my other reviews, I adore George Peppard and I think he is no less fantastic than Audrey. Where is the factory that makes men and actors like him? I am a taker. They shared 95% of the scenes. I wanted to watch George, then the more I watched the movie, the more I liked Audrey (George cannot lose first place in my heart).

Holly steals the show
A bit contrived but fun

A film better remembered for the music than for how good it was!
The stars of this film are as enjoyable to watch now just as they were when this film was released. Unfortunately, the film is, apart from the musical score, entirely forgettable. Inadvertently, the best bit of the film is seeing New York as it appeared in 1960 when the street sequences were filmed.!

The glamorous Ms Hepburn is no angel
Having not seen this movie before I realised in the first 2 minutes what the film's title meant; haha! Then follows a light but frivolous comedy adventure starring two apparently broke stars whose romantic adventures would be the envy of most teen and twenty types, but then, do you really want to live in chaos?

What a disappointment
Watchable but hugely over rated.

Wonderful (close eyes and ears to Mickey Rooney)
She nailed it didn't she. Generations of women have tried to do "the little black dress" with big hat etc. Why? They haven't come near, even Anna Wintour hasn't bothered. Gone from 5 to 4 on account of Mickey Rooney, who is appalling.

A really engaging film - it shows New York warts and all.
Brilliant screenplay showing Audrey Hepburn at her best. Some of the american dialogue was too quick for us to comprehend. I felt sorry for the cat!
