Very very good! Probably the Gold Standard!
Bought my first Miele vacuum cleaner to replace an aging Vax bagless model that had bits dropping off it whenever used.I debated which one to go for, having spent ages reading various web and YouTube reviews plus Amazon customer reviews on my shortlisted items (another Vax bagless cylinder [because it was cheap and I already know the brand], a Henry for legendary reliability plus the Miele range for their quality reputation). The thing that I wanted most is bagged vs bagless so the Vax was out of the window, so was the Henry as suction wasn't variable). Didn't want to spend a million pounds on a Dyson (been there twice in the past, and build quality wasn't all that). So, Miel it was - choosing a C3 rather than my first choice of a C2 because somhow the C3 was cheaper (?).Either way having unboxed it, set it up, and trialled it - I have to say that it lives up to the German engineering reputation in that it all feels very (and I mean "very*) well put together! The C3 model I went with is surprisingly lighter than it looks, not heavy but not light either - very manageable for someone with an 'iffy back like mine. The auction can be varied (as is the case on most if not all other models) and whilst the highest setting is pretty strong it doesn't start to pull up the floorboards like my old Vax did (it has a comparable power rating to this), which I'm thankful for as it used to make vacuuming difficult (I assume some power is lost because of draw of air through the bag). The metal thing the floor attachment and vacuum hose is connected to extends very far, which is another bonus as you won't be forever bending down when vacuuming.Whilest the vacuum pipe itself isn't that long compared to my old Vax one (which was exceptionally stretchy and allowed me to leave it at the foot of the stairs and vacuum almost to the top) it does seem to be a standard size. Anyway, having to move my Miel into middle of the stairs to clean the rest, and then (naturally) move it to the landing for upstairs is OK given that the cable length is such that I can continue to vacuum all upstairs three rooms of my semi detached house without having to unplug it from downstairs and plug it in upstairs!!Noise levels whilst vacuuming even on the highest setting is much more tolerable than my old Vax, so great news there also.No real issues at all, and I expect years of service - really wished I had bought one a long time ago!

A good little sucker
After spending months looking at Hoover's I decided on this one based on reviews as well as price. The suction is great it really picks up everything including endless amounts of mine and my daughters long hair. It doesn't have a roll bar type of head which is great as the hair doesn't get tangled up to the point where it stops spinning, it just goes straight up the vacuum. Great for dust, high up areas, laminate floors, floor boards, tiles and carpets. It might be old fashioned looking and it's not cordless but it's by far an outstanding vacuum in terms of performance. I have had Dysons since they first started selling them and this is my first different type of Hoover, it's cheaper and works the same. I've used Henry's but they fall over like a drunk little fat man with his feet in the air everytime you go round the corner. I have used vax vacuum but always find the pipe comes out if you pull it along and the lead is too short. For performance and price this is a winner. Only downside is that its noisy but you can change the settings , it has different options for rugs etc, you will need to use the different settings because it's way too powerful on full power for everything.

Built Like a Tank
Miele trade on their "Made in Germany" credentials as part of their product marketing and I'm happy to report that in the case of the C3 Powerline model, all of the positive stereotypes are true. All of the small engineering details and features are well considered, with a design approach of "all killer, no filler". Highlights include a powerful and reliable power-cable retraction mechanism, sensible choice and placement of small cleaning tools inside the body and all foot operable buttons throughout the unit. Being able to switch the power level without stooping is a particularly nice touch. As I understand, there's some doubt concerning the power of modern Miele vacuum units due to legislation that limits the maximum power. I have no point of reference here but I can only say this sucks like a [select preferred simile].As for the debate around bagged vs bagless: whilst I understand and admire the sentiment of creating less waste, the bags rarely need to be changed and I think in proportion this is a bit of a red herring. I've not changed mine in 6 months since purchasing and there is still capacity. They're also way easier on the unit since filtration and cleaning are taking place in the bag itself, rather than being outsourced to elsewhere in the mechanism. But hey, none of these reasons alone are why primary reason to buy a Miele, which is of course the incredible build quality and famed longevity of these units. After World War 3 and the inevitable giant cockroach uprising of 2089, those guys will probably be using be using our Miele vacuum cleaners to clean their giant cockroach carpets in their giant cockroach bungalows, a thought which brings me a strange but disconcerting type of comfort on long cold winter nights.
