Buzz Kill: A Toni Carey Mystery Paperback

Toni Carey is a fun, smart, sassy character. She is very real. The writing is excellent--the story moves at a good pace. My attention was completely captured right away. And the story is unique! How the author decided on bees and their proclivities would be interesting to know! Great job!

I'm a fan of Kate Thornton's short fiction collections, so I was pleased to see her produce her novel in my genre of choice, mystery. Toni is a sharp, personable investigator who is looking for love in the right place (this time). After her uncle gets bonked on the head, she takes on two searches: for her uncle's attacker and for the affection of s certain gentleman. Throw in the mystery of what her uncle was doing with the bees he keeps, and you find yourself with a clever story told in clean, fast-paced pride. I'm looking forward to the next Toni Carey book, as well as Kate's upcoming novel with a different protagonist. No buzz kill here!

Kate Thornton's BUZZ KILL gives insights into the politics and intrigue of academia, shocking that education doesn’t teach them to get along and be kind. It’s hard for Toni to know whom to trust, as she works to avoid the killer on the loose, and her own toxic family.The bees cooperate better, at least when treated calmly and not subjected to dodgy experiments. I love the idea of a window with an observation hive. The honey merchant at Renaissance Faire used to have one at their booth, and it was pleasant to watch the bees work. I was glad Toni got to revisit that soothing part of her childhood and . . . nope, no spoilers will you get from me. ;-)

Never wrote a review on a book before, but, I love this book and main character, Toni! The story was a good mystery and Toni is someone I wish I knew. She is smart, funny, tells it like it is and I hope to see her in the future. Easy to read and I just LOVE the last sentence of the book! You won't understand it fully unless you read book. Makes me grateful for the Mom I had. Highly recommend.

I love mysteries and this one has all the elements of a good one: a terrific female main character, an intriguing crime, an interesting guy, and the chance to learn about something -- in this case, bees and beekeeping. Hurray! I'm ready for the next one.
