Gilboys Hard Wax Oil - Interior Wood Finish - 500ml - All Natural, Quick Drying, Water & Heat Resistant - Perfect for Sealing & Finishing Kitchen worktops, Stairs, Floors, Doors & Dining Tables…

I used this hard wax oil to finish a solid cherrywood open pantry I'd built for our kitchen ... couldn't be happier with the results. The fumes were significantly less pungent than other oil finishes and, strangely enough, pleasant. Very simple process, I rolled my applications on with a foam roller, let sit for 20-30 minutes and used a cotton cloth to wipe off the excess ... lightly sanded with 320 grit between coats. I went with the recommended two coats minimum that resulted in a luxurious/buttery smooth finish.I can't comment on durability, but watched some videos that demonstrated a hard oil finish is much easier to spot repair than Poly.I'd used most of the can up, so I right away bought another! I will definitely use Gilboy's again, despite it being a little pricey, there's nothing worse than working hard a project only to have problems with the finish.

Fantastic results. Worth every penny. Of course I could make my own with the same recipe Gilboys uses but I'm not a high-volume refinisher and I want to support the company for everything they taught me on youtube.

Once I figure out how to use this properly on different woods I think it will be my go to finish. It goes on thick so getting the application method down is the hardest part. It seals and protects very well. I'm still experimenting with this product. I believe it is made from very high quality ingredients. The wire wool and cloth that comes with the polish is probably the piece that I was missing with just the hard wax oil. They need more videos on how to apply to new bare wood.

I recently built a custom desk and decided to give a hard wax oil a try as the finish. Reviews on this were good and one of my favorite Youtubers uses it for his restoration projects. So, I figured I'd give it a go. The finish came out great and it's very durable so far. I use the desk daily, and eat at least one meal a day at it while I work. Wipes completely clean with just a little water. What's worked for me:- Three coats and wait the full 8 hours that they recommend on the can before the next coat... even longer, if you have the patience! :-)- Use a foam brush or pad. I tried a lint-free application towel with the first coat and it left swirls. I tried an expensive(ish) paint brush for the second coat, and it left streaks. With the third, I tried a foam brush, with steady, even swipes and it gave me the smooth finish I was looking for. Also, I DID lightly hand sand between each coat with 400 grit sandpaper.Bottom-line, this is good stuff. Would definitely recommend.

Brings out the wood grain hard.

This finish was by far the best I’ve ever used. To be fair, I’ve mostly used finishes found at the hardware store, but this stuff blew me away. It was incredibly easy to apply and looked incredible. I wiped on the first coat with a cloth and applied subsequent coats with 0000 steel wool. It was a beautiful, even, satin finish, but then I took it up a notch with Gilboy’s pure gold wax. That really took it over the top. I’ve never achieved a finish this good before and will be using it again first chance I get.

I almost never leave reviews, but this wood finish is so good I felt that I needed to. I have used it to finish wood tools that I make and sell, custom small furniture projects, as well as various turned bowls and spindle turnings. It's one of the easiest finishes I've ever applied, and looks amazing. My turned bowls look better then they ever have. I've tried tons of other pure oil finishes, Odie's, turning specific oils, and lots of homemade ones. For ease of use, quality of finish, and affordability nothing even comes close. I've switched all my projects to Gilboys.On another note the packaging, beautifully printed brochure, and the sunflower seeds are a great touch. I just can't speak highly enough about this hard wax oil and how happy I am to have found it.

Fantastic finish. Definitely wear gloves when applying. The VOCs do seem to be low, but fair warning, if you apply it indoors without an OV respirator it will give you diarrhea from breathing in the fumes. Other than that its great and dried over night!
