Duraflame Electric Freestanding Infrared Quartz Fireplace Stove, Red

Love this Duraflame! Great quality, nice price, has safety features built in. It takes the chill out of my living room. I like the "fireplace" look of it on cold Southern nights. I'm on my 2nd unit in 15 years.

We have had this heater for 5 years. Constant use in Missouri winters from November to March. It heats our 20’x30’ cabin really well. One great feature is that if the power blinks or is off for a bit, when the power is restored the heater comes back on by itself. The fan is a little loud, but tolerably so. Esthetically perfect.

I liked this unit so much, I am pending delivery of a second one in black. I can't speak to durability but the brand name is good. This unit is light weight (important to me as I'm disabled and can still move this about). I had a '3 season' sun-room added to the back of the house but there was no way to reasonably add it to the HVAC system so I've been heating it with a variety of those electric oil radiators. Basically I lost use of the room if it was much colder than 40F. This little champ has already tested out to be able to maintain 68F in my sun-room when the outside temps were 31F. Maybe it won't quite handle the teens, but we are seldom below 20F here so it's a major improvement! We also tested the unit in our converted garage (now a family room). Due to the HVAC layout, we have to close the vents there or there isn't quite enough to heat the rest of the house. Leaving the door open to the rest of the house makes it tolerable but chilly. No more! This is perfect for there too, hence I have a second unit, in a better color match, on order. It should be here 28 Dec 2018. Second unit is only different in color. On the questions on heat of the unit itself. It's cool enough on sides and top that my cat likes to sleep on it when running. We have it propped up a bit on some old bricks because I wasn't quite sure of a clearance with my high pile carpet but other reviewers say I am being overly cautious as they have them on bare wood or linoleum floors and it barely warms them with no bubbling. On the realistic level of the light display, I have a fireplace in the living room which we use to augment heat. From a few feet away, this heater unit looks pretty close to authentic. You can easily adjust the light level and when guests stayed in our family room, they dialed it down to a soothing night light. It is now Feb 2020 and I am just as delighted with the units I got as the day they arrived! The only issue I have had is a totally expected one. One of them had to have the light-bulb replaced, after 2 years of nearly continuous use (nice night light in a large rooms where the main switch is across it). Cost about 1$ a bulb and about 5 minutes. Maintains a sun-room (12ft x 13ft x7ft tall) at 70F in 32F temperature (solid ceiling and 1 wall, one insulated wall abuts rest of porch, 2 glass). Suspect those with issues didn't follow manufacturer directions to plug this directly into a 3 prong wall outlet, not off an extension cord.

I wanted to update my original review. After running it for a few days it now heats the room sufficiently. I guess it might have needed a "warm up" period. I still think its over priced and you are paying for the "look" which is why i didnt give it a higher rating. Not impressed with this unit. I should have spent $30 on a heater from Walmart. For the cost and the size, its not effective in heating a room. My home is very small, think less than 600 sq ft and I've had this thing cranked up all the way for 48 hours now. The house is still cold, I still need heavy socks, I still need a blanket and sweater. The light up fire place is a cute idea but if the unit doesn't work than its just a total waste of energy and space. The heater blows at ground level. Save your money and go buy a small unit for $30. For something that doesnt work, it takes up a lot of space.

I have such good luck with Duraflame products and this is the third heater from them that I’ve bought one I gave to my sister one I use in the bedroom and now this one works in the living room. Heat a space up quickly and with the thermostat it shuts off whenever it gets to the desired temperature and the remote is nice especially if I’m comfortable on the couch and watching a movie and I wanna turn this off. It’s easy just to click and didn’t even have to get up. I would definitely buy this or any of their products again not the cheapest one out there but excellent for the value and you can’t go wrong with the design.

I ordered the stove as it had a little discount off for a slight dent in the back. I did not want to pay full price. I absolutely love the stove! It’s toasty and warm keeps my whole bonus room warm we like it at our feet, it’s safe. It has a remote it cuts off also has a very nice artificial flame that we like very happy with the stove. The color is nice and the top does not get hot. We put coasters on the top and put some drinks there it’s very safe.

(Update Jan 2024: About 4 years later and it’s still going strong! We actually also have a black one of these that we purchased before this one and they’re both still working great. We haven’t had a single issue or burned out bulb with either one yet. We don’t have central heat but use a combination of a woodstove downstairs and these 2 heaters plus 2 portable oil-filled radiant heaters upstairs. They won’t warm up much more than a single room so plan accordingly. It’s -5° right now and the house is nice and warm. Fyi we have a 3 bedroom 100 year old farm house with slightly drafty doors and windows, and this setup is keeping us toasty through the Midwest winters.) Welp, it's adorable for starters. I got the red and its very charming. The flames are just fine, of course they're fake looking but I've seen worse. Out of the corner of your eye they look real enough & the ambiance is there. Add a couple real sticks to help it with authenticity. The heater really puts out the heat!! It's not winter yet so I'll update if it doesn't perform up to snuff during a cold midwest winter. Loving the remote so I can read in bed with the flames on and then turn it off when I'm falling asleep without ever getting up. Luxury :)

For that low price, you don’t expect a lot. However, if you need a cute and very effective heater, buy this one. The ‘fire’ is not really fancy. But my usually 40 to 45 degree basement bedroom is WARM ! the control is so easy to use. It has an automatic thermostat that turns off the heat when the room is warm enough. when it gets chilly again, the heat comes back on. No fussing around. My 12 X 24 basement bedroom is WARM . Did I mention... this one will keep you warm !! This low budget heater works so much better than the $350 one that quit after three winters. N.Y. State winters are COLD. This little red gem keeps me nice and warm !!!!
