The vest is machine washable (remove the electronic components and air dry) but to maximize lifespan less laundering is probably better.The unit has 6 settings - 3 cooling which uses 4 small, barely noticeable fans to circulate air away from the cooling units. The heating elements also have three settings.For actually utility, there are 4 heating/cooling units - one mounted under each arm and two mid-back over to the right/left of the spine. The cooing units do produce a small cooling patch (perhaps the size of an old silver dollar) which does help reduce core body temperature slightly. For heating, the units again produce a localized hot spot under the arms and over the spine so the vest does perform as described.From a practical standpoint, in cool weather on would probably wear the vest over a jacket/sweatshirt which will lessen the heating effect - it will still produce heat but that heat will need to penetrate the insulating fabric.Overall, a good concept, certainly has use in the summer in warm/hot climates (e.g., road crew) and it absolutely is a bright, compliant safety vest .Good vest, sized correctly - does work to cool the four spots but heating may be diminished when wearing the vest over layers of clothes. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Great Vest Just Dont Expect Too Much From It *by L***E on Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2023* The Cooling Saftey Vest is very nice. The vest in my opinion is too expensive for what it does. Four stars for the quality of the vest and the concept of the product. The vest does cool. It feels cool by touch but I really didnt feel that it would keep me cool in the heat. I only felt the coolness of the pads on my back while wearing a tank top. The instructions were kinda vague. It says you can change the settings but it doesnt say how. I was clicking on the pads but it didnt seem to do anything. Guess I have to research to find out how to change to the heat element and other settings. The vest never changed settings by just clicking.
