Pure Pickup Perfection
Okay, I'm not normally the kind of person who writes reviews, but I thought I would make an exception on this occasion.I'm a musician and have been finding recently that my gigs are requiring a little more volume than I can get from my acoustic guitar on its own. I looked into electro acoustics at first, thinking I would just upgrade my guitar, but in all honesty I'm pretty fond of the one I already have. One of my friends pointed me towards these pick-ups and I thought I might as well give it a shot. It took a lot of deliberation before I picked this one, there are a surprising number on the market, but boy am I glad I did.So, delivery first: forget 24 hour service, this turned up at my doorstep in under 12 hours, that's service. I got an email the night I ordered it saying it had already been dispatched, to hats off to Amazon on this one. It was all nicely packaged too, even came with a nice cloth bag for storage on the go.And on to the important thing: the sound quality. I was hoping to find something that wouldn't lose any of the tone of my guitar. That's a big ask, I know, but that's why I turned to Duncans, as they're pretty reliable on the pick-up front. I was amazed when I slotted it neatly into the sound-hole of my dreadnought (I was expecting some fancy system for attaching it, but nope, just foam at the sides. Seems pretty durable, though), went straight into my amp and the sound was clear as crystal. Not only had I not lost any of the sound quality, it was actually significantly nicer than playing pure acoustic! My guitar isn't exactly top of the range, but nonetheless I was impressed by the sound, it was beautifully acoustic and warm, with that woody edge you'd expect from an acoustic guitar. There was quite a lot of buzzing, so I'm glad I got the humbucking version rather than the single coil, but that was pretty quickly sorted by playing with the tone and gain controls on my Roland Cube Street. It's incredibly responsive to finger-style playing, no matter how light and gentle I am, yet it can also cope with some pretty rough treatment, every note in a chord clear and precise, however harshly I'm strumming. It sits pretty far away from the strings, even though the action on my Fender acoustic is flat to the fretboard. I recommend shifting it down as much as possible though, this does help reduce the buzzing. A few dials twiddled on my amp and I got an amazing electric tone, perfect for soloing on with the assistance of a loop-station for backing chords! Yet the tone was still warm and round, probably better than either of my electrics, if I'm perfectly honest.Build quality is also excellent, it looks fantastic, the black is wonderfully sleek and the wooden casing gives it an air of quality from both near and far. The cable is sturdy and surprisingly long. I was worried when I ordered this that it wouldn't reach my amp, but no problems there. Minor irritation that you can't remove the cable, but I can see why that would be necessary, not enough space in the pick-up for a 5mm jack, so it's not enough to drop a star. This pick-up has really brought my guitar to life and I can't wait to try it out at a gig, it's really taking things to another level. One happy customer thoroughly recommends this product!

Great Pickup
This is a great, quality pickup. It's quiet and the tone is lovely. It does need the signal boosting though - it is a passive pickup and I hadn't considered that before I bought it. Easy done though - I use a Graphic EQ stomp box between the pick up and the amp and boost the signal with that but it could be done in many different ways. The pick up was very tight in my guitar sound hole but the instructions show clearly how to remove the foam inserts and cut a little out to make the fit easier.

Very quiet
It has good sound quality but you will have to turn up your amp input as is less than half the output than a standard electric so if you are switching between the 2 often you have to change your volume up and down… small problem but enough to get on your nerves

Brilliant with a bit of tinkering
Firstly this is a great looking and well constructed piece of kit, but more importantly sounds about as good as you'd get from a properly tinkered mic setup. My reference is my Martin OM-21 acoustic, directly into a Fender Bassbreaker 15 (which I use to practice). Obviously when you amplify anything you'll get a different tone, but here is how I made it work: The product (basically a humbucker) squeezes into the guitar hole with foam, and I had no issue doing that with an expensive guitar - and it's fine. Fit with bass closest, treble further away. Then be prepared to bring out all EADG, especially G in my setup, and don't be afraid to screw in B&E (a lot). Preamp is nonexistent but works ok for practice if you have a good amp. If you have a pedal board, you'll be delighted. Hope this helps, happy to do Q&A

The good: Extremely easy to fit without damaging your guitar
The good:Extremely easy to fit without damaging your guitar.Tone is reasonable - although I don't have a dedicated acoustic amplifier so I can't be too fussy. The bad:Despite the product's claims, it can't really be used without a pre-amp. It is simply too quiet. The ugly:The cable is hard-wired into the unit - so unless you are always going to use this through an amplifier, you will be left with 14' of useless cable trailing from your guitar - or you will, as I do, have to remove the pickup in order to use the guitar in 'acoustic' mode.

How to get a more acoustic sound
A lot of people have commented on the 'muddy' sound and I too was disappointed by this. There is a nasty jump in volume too when moving to the B string. The answer is to completely unscrew the B string pole piece and take it out. Make sure the E string pole piece is screwed down below the surface of the pickup and the four wound strings should be a little above the surface level. On your amp dial the mid tones down by 10-12 db and you will have a brilliant clear acoustic tone.I still like to add a mic pointed at the 12th fret for extra realism and quality but can do without that if feedback threatens. Feedback is never a problem with the pickup on its own. Hope someone benefits from this review because it transformed the pickup for me.

Great sound hole pickup for an AMAZING price!
This is a great sound hole pickup that is easy to install and plays pretty much right out of the bag. It comes in a great little bag with a L-wrench and extra pole pieces. The sound is amazing, as well as the noise cancellation it has. It has a great woody tone to it that punches but is soft at the same time. With a little adjustment using the L-wrench and pole piece tuning, you can get some really wicked sound from this. I absolutely love this thing. 5/5 would but another!
