Strongly recommend Usborne 1st Experience books!
a must buy for any family having to bring their child to the hospital.. Eases the anxiety. The books are from the UK so the hospital setting is a little different than what we experience in the USA but still similar enough. Finding the Duck in every pic makes Usborne books very popular with the little ones!

A MUST-HAVE if your child to going to the hospital
When my son was going to have tubes put in his ears and his Adnoids removed, we purchased this book. He was just barely 3 years old, but this book explained on HIS level everything that was going to happen to him (from the little boy's ear first hurting, to everything that happens at the hospital before and after the surgery). We took the book to the hospital and he pointed out to me where in the book it showed each step as they happened to him (ex. nurse taking his temperature). The book did this so well, and my son was so calm, the doctor decided he didn't need to give him the normal shot of something to calm him down. They just carried him down to surgery. He just turned 4 and we are having to remove his tonsils this next month. He is reading the book again and loving it. Even though the procedure is not the exact same as the one the little boy in the book has, it has been very easy to replace ear ache with sore throat. EXCELLENT BOOK

I found the content helpful but I feel that some of the information was a bit dated.

Bright and cheery for very young readers
This book is about a boy who goes into the hospital for a one night stay after an ear operation. The pictures and words are bright, cheery and comforting to young readers. My daughter liked to read this book even after her hospital stay. It was written in England so it shows hospital scenes (like children in group wards) which didn't apply to my daughters stay. I pointed out differences between what would and did happen to her. A good book to show a very young child what going to the hospital will be like and that it isn't as scary as it might seem.

Bought before a hospital visit - exactly what we needed to prepare!
We have a little girl who was going to have an operation. We wanted a resource to prepare her for the operation that wasn’t scary or overwhelming. This little book is a lovely way of introducing the topic of hospitals and has been great for learning about what she may do/see/feel. Perfect for children!

Perfect Pre-op Prep
Our wee boy is almost two and is going to have an operation in a couple of weeks. We bought this book to help him prepare for it and it is brilliant. Very straight forward, covers everything from initially feeling unwell dr visits, then the actually day in hospital. Lots of detail about taking blood pressure, heart rate and temperature, as well as having gas and being wheeled down long corridors on the bed. Our son will not have gas, but the book recommends you discuss the alternatives with your child, we've done this and he can tell you now that he will have the medicine in his hand and this will make him sleep. The pictures are clear and our son is now chatting about going to hospital and seems to be actually looking forward to it. Now his biggest concern is that he will not be able to have any snacks after breakfast on the day.I don't usually give full marks for anything but I honestly don' think this book could be improved.

Perfect for helping wee ones prepare for an op
Bought this for my 3.5 yr old to help prepare her for an operation. So glad I did! It’s been perfect for talking through the whole process. The pictures are a wee bit old fashioned - eg the nurse uses an old style thermometer and takes Ben’s pulse manually - but that didn’t matter at all. My wee one loves the story and it’s definitely helped get her ready for her op.
