Review: Game-Changer for Textured Acrylic Paintings! - Iโve been using DAP Alex Flex Flexible Spackling (much easier to work with than DryDex) for over a year now to create bold, impasto-style textures on my stretched canvases before painting with acrylics, and itโs become my absolute favorite โsecret weapon.โ Forget overpriced modeling paste or texture gels from art brandsโthis stuff delivers professional-level results at a fraction of the cost. It spreads beautifully with a palette knife, holds peaks and swirls perfectly without slumping, and stays flexible once dry so it doesnโt crack even on larger or slightly flexing canvases. I love how it sands super smooth if I want refined edges or builds up thick for dramatic 3D effects. Dries to a nice white base that takes acrylic paint like a dreamโno flashing, no weird sheen, and excellent adhesion. Iโve even mixed in a bit of acrylic gel medium or fine sand for custom grit, and it handles that flawlessly too. Drying time is reasonable (a few hours for thin layers, overnight for thicker ones), low odor, easy cleanup with water, and itโs readily available at any hardware store. As an artist on a budget who creates abstract and mixed-media pieces, this has saved me tons of money while giving me more creative freedom. Highly recommend to any painter looking to experiment with heavy textureโitโs durable, versatile, and performs way better than I ever expected from a spackling product! If youโre into textured art, grab this and playโyou wonโt go back. ๐จโจ Review: Great Product - I had some cosmetic cracks in the ceiling. I used this DAP Alex Flex Flexible Spackling before painting. It dries very hard, is easy to sand and is holding up very well without re-cracking. Very pleased.

Reoccurring cracks
So far I like it and find it easy to spread. I was doing some larger repairs/cracks so I also used fiberglass mesh tape beneath it. It definitely has a different texture than your everyday spackle. More rubbery. I'm also applying very thin layers in increments & feathering to avoid sanding. I'm not convinced about the ease of sanding & allowing 12 hour drying time between coats. If those cracks never return, mission accomplished ๐

Easy to apply, looks great.
Did a nice job of filling some fine cracks in my walls. My walls have knock-down texture, and I just applied it with a gloved finger rather than a putty knife. I wasn't expecting perfection, but was just looking for a quick, easy fix without doing any texture work. I was able to touch up with paint, and though I know they're there, a guest probably won't notice the cracks now. Time will tell whether the cracks return, but that may be more of an issue with stress/ movement of my walls rather than this product. I'm hopeful that the flexibility of the product will help mitigate that. I read some reviews about receiving old/dried up product. Mine seemed fresh and in perfect condition. If it had been crumbly, I would have returned it.
