Basic Scholastic Chess Club Starter Kit - for 10 Members - Black

I bought this chess club kit for my son who has started his own chess club at school. It's a great starter kit and even comes with an instructional layout board. My only gripe, and the only reason I didn't give it five stars, is the storage cases. Because the chess boards are vinyl, they have to be rolled instead of folded otherwise it would damage the boards so the storage bag is basically useless except for carrying the pieces. I bought cardboard mailing tubes and cut them down to size for storage of the boards, leaving enough space at the top of each tube to store the pieces in ziplock bags.

Having the option for 10 members rather than 20 was just what I needed. The pieces definitely feel cheaper than I am used to, but for a school club they work fine. They come with an extra queen, which is certainly convenient. The cases are large enough for the pieces, although I think it would be very hard to squeeze a chess clock in with them, but I don't have clocks currently so I wasn't able to test it. Plus my old clock ended up getting broken because no one knew it was in there and put heavy stuff on top...

Good value. Enough to coach 10 chess players. 5 sets with bags and a magnetic display board.
