Solid cable does exactly what it needs to
Good quality connector, comes with drivers if you need them for some reason. Plug and play in Win10, as long as you know how to look at what com port number it was assigned to in device manager.Worked perfectly for updating the firmware on an older lumagen video processor via the rs232 port.

Works nicely in Ubuntu with/wo VirtualBox
Works well in Ubuntu (as a virtualbox host), and even more impressively in an Ubuntu virtualbox guest. Great value for the cost!

Doesn't Feel Entirely Cheap
The modern implementation of usb/serial has really slimmed down. The PL2303 is tucked away nicely in the DB9 connector. Sadly, I'm not going to tear this one to pieces to check the wire gauge, but with moderate usage it should last a while. It does come with a driver cd, but I submitted that to the File 13. I generally recommend the prolific drivers for older windows and OSX installs. Older drivers on OS 10 can cause a hang if the terminal is open and the usb cable is unplugged.Works like charm with screen and putty.

Beware
Purchased this for an older PC accessory on a new PC and it does not work. I checked the cable density and found several frayed wires internally. Wouldn't recommend.

Works great for console db9 managed switch
Bought it for an older Allied Telesis GS950/16 switch. Could not find the web access ip. Used this console cable and could connect to it right away.

it works well
a little heavier duty than expected so it's a little stiffer than expected but needed for the longer cord. ends gave a tight fit.

No driver installation needed on Linux
Linux was able to recognize the chip, and I was communicating with other devices immediately.
