Fire Proof Safe
Exactly as described; even roomier than I imagined. Looks well-made and I can only hope that I never find out how fire proof it is.

Great choice for a fireproof safe
I did a lot of research on which fireproof safe to get, and this was a great choice. It's quite heavy, but is pretty easy to open and close and gives me peace of mind that documents are safe.

SUPER Heavy, High-Quality
This is a super heavy, high-quality safe. Easy to use and stores documents exactly like I need it to.

Won't lock
It arrived today, and I already have to contact their warranty department. It won't/ can't be locked - the lock lever is too shallow to rotate closed. They ship it unlocked and open, so pressure from the lid (and anything stacked on it) can easily bend the flimsy lock lever down to the point where it won't fit into the slot on the lid! Poor packaging + cheap lock design.

Good waterproof fire chest for small number of important documents
I purchased this waterproof fire chest to store a small number of original estate planning documents (living trust, wills, power of attorney, etc.) as well as a few select others (passports, vehicle titles, etc). I don't need a safe, just something that provides some added peace of mind for fire and/or flood. I went with this one over others mainly because of the reviews and also the recommendation in the NYT. Per the NYT the FireKing SureSeal 0.38 cuft model is functionally the same but colored differently and more expensive. The manual says it's "ETL certified to maintain an interior temperature below 350F for one hour, at temperatures up to 1700F." The manual also says it's "3rd party verified to maintain a dry interior, even if chest is fully submerged, for up to 100 hours."It is definitely hefty at a little over 40lbs. The hinges have a slow-close mechanism that prevents your fingers from getting slammed if the lid falls. It shipped with a large desiccant bag inside, but I ordered a "rechargeable" one just to be sure I don't end up with soggy, moldy documents. The lock is pretty cheesy and seems mostly intended to latch the case closed. For my purposes I would have been happy without a keyed lock. The two substantial looking latches on either side of the central lock are cheap plastic and I'm not sure they provide much functionality. I believe they'll break off or become damaged if handled roughly.Per the manual the case must be stored flat, not on edge like a briefcase. All in all I think it will meet my needs but there is some room for improvement.

So far so good. But off-gas this
Solid, well built, keyed and sufficient for our needs. It's heavy but it's from concrete, not thick steel. It claims to be fire resistant, water resistant but you cannot expect miracles. I'd prefer a lighter "safe" to carry out of our house in case of a fire or zombie apocalypse evacuation. The weight of the safe does not give me the illusion of impregnability. We have this to store our passports, wills, deeds, automobile titles and the like. We'll keep our gold bars, magic rings and plutonium reserves in our imaginary subterranean vault. Not bad, should suffice.Oh yes. You will be surprised by the stench when you open this. Drag it into the garage to off-gas for a while. Wiccans may want to try a cleansing spell or get a priest to perform an exorcism. It's bad, but only for a few days. Don't open it in the house for a while.

Heavy and key parts are flimsy plastic
This box is extremely big (on the outside) and heavy. If this is part of your grab and go strategy, make sure you're in good shape before trying to carry this out the door. Perhaps all that insulation which creates the size and weight does a good job protecting what's inside. However, the plastic clasps that hold the thing shut are the flimsiest pieces I've ever seen. Don't bump them by accident because you might easily break them off and then have a box that won't stay closed. They are absolutely the part that will break first. It is odd that they overengineered this box with soft close pistons and then cheaped out so much on the clasps. Bottom line, it works, but I would never buy another nor would I recommend it to anyone.
