I absolutely love this GearTop hat. I purchased it because my doctor told me to wear sunscreen protection and specifically to wear a wide brimmed hat. I have tons of regular trucker style/baseball style hats, but needed a wide brim. This hat looks great. The color is perfect - not too light so it won’t get dirty and not too dark so it won’t absorb heat. The fit of the hat is also perfect for my large sized head (just as the fitment chart said). It is very lightweight so you’ll barely notice it on your head - no real extra weight whatsoever. The drawstring serves as both an adjustment for sizing as well as a way to lock the drawstring under your chin to keep it even more in place for those really windy days. So far I haven’t needed to lock in place as the hat fits so well. The thing that really sold me on this hat is the ventilation system. I hate hats that make your hotter and don’t ventilate well. This has ventilates amazingly because the circumference area on the upper part of the hat has a mesh that allows for airflow in and heat out. Everyone also thinks that I look pretty good in this hat as I get many compliments so far. The UVF of 50+ in the fabric is also perfect as many of the sun’s rays can get through most clothing. I truly cannot think of a better quality made hat that stays attractive. This hat ticks all the boxes for the perfect hat. Absolutely an emphatic recommend for anyone looking for a great sun hat, hiking hat, gardening hat, etc.

Took this hat on a trip to Egypt in May when it was HOT and I was so glad I did! Comfortable, breathable, and provides good shade to the face. It also folds up easily, and the long drawstring allows for comfort as well as a secure fit in a breeze, and lets it fall onto your back so you don't have to take it off when you go inside a building or historic site. I was especially grateful I had this hat with me on the 110 degree days!

Comfortable but almost too tight for my big head. Keeps the sun off while working outside. Ugly as heck though. Comes all wrinkled, not like the ones worn by the models pictured.

Absolutely perfect hat for friend going on safari; with many health and welfare restrictions. We did tremendous research to find this hat; and it packs easily.

Got this hat for my hiking trip to Colorado! Breathable. Fit well. Rolled up easy in my suitcase and kept its shape when it was time to wear. Gave my fair skin the sun protection it needed. Love it and have worn it multiple times since.

I had my Tilley hat stolen from my baggage and needed a replacement and after researching bought this hat. The good is the value and quality construction. It is light and airy (due to mesh) which allows air to flow thru. This hat survives easily being jammed into a daypack and creases in the brim are minimal. While this hat is waterproof I do get wet when it rains by water going through the brim of the hat so my head gets soaked! This is the only feature I do not like. Overall this is a great value for sun protection even of my neck and ears. The hat has a adjustable string for snugness and chin strap for when windy!

I would give this more stars if the brim were truly 3.75” all around. It’s a functional hat. But I don’t appreciate that the hats in the pictures look like they are in fact 3.75” but the hat they sell is not. So it does provide some coverage of the ears, which is good, and the pony-tail hole in the back is great. But with the narrow brim it sends more disheveled- fishing-hat-vibes, which is not what I’m going for. To be honest, when I’ve looked in the mirror I’ve said “meh” out loud. Worse when I’m walking the dog and the disheveled grampa hat is combined with multi-pocketed pants or shorts jammed with everything I could possibly need for a dog walk (eg poop bags, hand sanitizer—after opening trash cans or dealing with the odd complication), a bag of kibble for treats, tissues, phone… unattractively bulging, in other words). It looks even worse on a windy day, when I need the chin strap. And you DO need the chin strap on a windy day, since it blows off without it but still remains kinda stuck on your ponytail. I know the whole bad ensemble look isn’t entirely the hat’s fault, but the hat IS the unappealing topper that doesn’t even block out much sun for all that. The brim is about 3.75” in the BACK only—where I don’t’ really need the extra width. It’s barely 3.25” in the front, and it’s only 3” on the sides. That’s the problem. They skimped, and the result is that it looks like grampa’s fishing bucket hat, AND it fails to keep the sun off my face, unless it’s directly overhead. Other than that it’s a good hat. I might have given it 4 stars if the product information were not misleading and deceptive. Like I said, the ponytail hole in the back is great. Doesn’t look bad, does the job. It has an adjustment to the band that’s easy to work with and effective. The color is also a bit lighter than the picture would indicate. I would prefer it a little darker, more like the picture. I had also purchased one that was light blue, but the actual color was off-white. I had to return that one. Another positive is that it is nice when there’s a breeze. I can actually feel the breeze through the hat. Kinda nice.

I love this hat so much! Perfect for its first use hiking in the Arizona sun!
