I haven’t put this book down in three months. This is a dream come true. If you’re a nerd for the history of American music, there is not a better book this size. It’s very targeted within the parliament funkadelic collective, which is its mission, but if you’re not a fan of the parliaments, but are a fan of any R&B, soul, blues, American history, nearly every USA musician who was influential in the evolution of American music is in this book, and the authors ad nauseam included so many important quips and very very creative people. This is a gem/ is the kind of book that will be preserved in libraries forever because of the citations and documentation of how things happen - things that are massively important in American history. Kudos.

danny bedrosian has seriously outdone himself (and likely a vast majority of musicologists) with this DEEP and cohesive dive into the musical legacy of one of the greatest artistic collectives to ever roam this earth.Parliament Funkedelic (and its many subsidiaries) and George Clinton have changed the musical landscape of human history. arguably the most sampled group of all come, with one of the largest musical casts of all time, danny had his work cut out for him in appropriately listing EVERY single musician, producer, and artist that had a hand in one of over 800 releases by the group. this book captures all the names and gives appropriate tribute. i’m grateful to daniel for his work and you should be too.buy this book. give it to a music lover, a radio DJ, a friend who wants to check out something new. thank you daniel!

Bought this book as a Christmas gift because my significant other is featured in this book. It was some disappointing parts in there..but it’s a cool book

Very thorough information for all George Clinton and P-Funk related recordings. It covers all of The P's major albums as well as all the spinoff and family group recordings. The information includes track listing, personnel and interesting facts about specific tracks much of which was passed word-of-mouth from band members and Clinton himself. This is a must have for anybody that loves Parliament Funkadelic and would like to know more.

Zunächst einmal: Einkaufsempfehlung...Ja oder Nein? Ganz klar: ja!Trotz aller Schwächen, die dieses Buch aufweist, ist es leider so: Es gibt derzeit kein Besseres!Das Buch zeigt, wenn man es gründlich studiert, sehr gut, welcher P-Funk Musiker wann (großen) Einfluss auf P-Funk Songs oder sogar auf eine längere Zeitspanne in der P-Funk Geschichte hatte.Beispielsweise kann man in dem Buch auch gut nachvollziehen, wann Bootsy Collins verstärkt am Drums eingesetzt wurde, (weil Jerome Brailey und Frankie Kash Waddy nicht verfügbar waren?)Viele andere Trends, was den Einsatz der Musiker betrifft, lassen sich wirklich sehr gut erkennen..........Doch die Schwächen dieses Buches sind gravierend.Vor allem die Struktur der Auflistung der Songs/Alben ist katastrophal!Danny Bedrosian hat sich dazu entschieden, kleinere oder sogar Kleinst-P-Funk-Projekte mit den großen Bands Parliament, Funkadelic, Parlet, Bootsy's Rubber Band, P-Funk All Stars "gleichzusetzen".WANN HAT EIN P-Funk Projekt die erste Veröffentlichung gehabt? Diese Jahreszahl muss man schon mal wissen!! Das hat so gut wie niemand im Kopf!Diese jeweils erste Veröffentlichung eines Projektes hat Danny Bedrosian mit einer Art zeitlichen Chronologie kombiniert: So finden sich am Anfang des Buches ALLE Alben von Parliament und Funkadelic (hintereinander weg sozusagen) und am Schluß der "Chronologie" neuste Songs von Busty and the Bass, P-Union und MonoNeon.Die großartige P-Funk Geschichte wird von wenigen Hauptbands (inklusive die Bootsy-Veröffentlichungen) und mehr als zahlreichen Kleinst-Projekten geprägt: Viel Spaß beim Suchen (und Finden?) der Lieblingssongs irgendwo zwischen Parliament/Funkadelic am Anfang und P-Union und MonoNeon am Schluss. 371 Seiten stehen Dir zur Verfügung. Es ist mühselig.Sowohl die P-Funk All Stars Veröffentlichungen als auch die Bootsy-Releases präsentiert Danny jeweils nicht hintereinander weg, sondern mit jeweiligen Lücken. Das macht absolut keinen Sinn!Lange Rede, kurzer Sinn: Danny hätte besser THEMATISCH sortiert:MEINE IDEE:1.) Die Anfänge in den 50er und 60ern2.) Funkadelic3.) Parliament4.) P-Funk All Stars5.) GC Solo6.) Parlet und Brides7.) Bootsy's Projekte8.) Bootsy Solo9.) Solo Projekte in den 70ern10.) Solo Projekte in den 80ern.....12.) brandneue Kleinst-ProjekteUngenaue Details:Mit Spannung und Freude hatte ich sechs P-Funk Songs im Kopf, bei denen ich neugierig war: wer spielt da was? Wer spielt das Solo?Soli explizit nennt Danny GAR NICHT. Warum nicht? Aber selbst das Instrument fand ich oft NICHT angegeben.Manchmal steht auch nur "Detroit Horn Section" oder "Detroit Musicians", Session Musiker oder dergleichen.Oder ein zumindest ehrliches Fragezeichen....Keiner der sechs P-Funk Songs, die ich sehnsüchtig im Buch suchte (und nach langer Zeit auch fand), wurde anständig informativ präsentiert.Ach ja.. und WER IST BITTE "FROSTY"? Kennt den jemand? Hat der auch einen richtigen Namen? Er wird bei einigen sehr KLASSE Funkadelic-Stücken als Drummer angegeben.Unterm Strich war ich sehr enttäuscht von diesem Buch...

I thought I was a big p-funk fan. I thought that I had amassed all the albums and singles in the p-funk cannon, based on the old motherpage lists that I had studiously printed on my dot matrix printer back in the bulletin board days. This amazing resource has shown me how wrong I was and has unearthed a whole pile of things that I was completely unaware of, and that is just incredibly exciting. I’m sure that a whole lot of people told the author that this would be an impossible task, but somehow he’s managed to pull it off. Fabulous.
