Ebony, an Elegy
The richlite board is the only thing to mention here, this being a model made the same with the same materials since the 1950's. Whether 'richlite' affects tone considerably or not on an electric guitar is obviously a huge never ending argument. Some say pickups are all that matter, others, that its the combination of wood and pickups. What I noticed is the look. Ebony vs. this new composite stuff, which can look grey in a certain light, or plastic. So, at these prices you've got too face the fact that you're not buying a piece of furniture as aesthetically pleasing as they once were. You can be satisfied that Ethically you're on message, but fact is, Ebony rainforest is owned and managed ethically by Taylor, who Gibson are loathe to buy Ebony off for their boards (don't want to pay the middleman, except for incredibly expensive custom shop models like the recent Robbie Kreiger black beauty). Perhaps because Taylor is being ethical by allowing the variegated, natural woodstreaking in Ebony, not discarding all but the pure black pieces. Suffice to say, as regards the Custom, The old ones are going to hold value over this new ersatz model. So buy this and weep.

"Invented by a Guitar Player"
Probably the best guitar in the world all things considered! For those who can't decide between a Fender Stratocaster or a Gibson Les Paul just remember this.....The Fender Stratocaster was invented by Leo Fender who famously couldn't play the guitar whereas the Les Paul was designed by the legendary Les Paul who definitely could play....Need I say more?On a serious note though, a Gibson Les Paul Custom was a dream of mine since picking up Guitar Hero on the Playstation 2! and eventually it came true. Whilst I will buy (and have bought) other guitars, I will always put my Les Paul Custom at the top of my list for quality of sound and style.

Best Guitar I have ever owned
Best Guitar I have ever owned. Build so well, plays beautifully. It's the one I always pick up when I want to play. Yes, it's shame the neck is no longer ebony and yes, it's not right the price has not come down, but it still looks good to me - the fingerboard is still way darker than any of my other guitars. The action is a bit high for me up at the top of the neck but that's my only gripe. So glad I got it.

Very cheap for the quality
I have picked one of these baby's up to retire my original 1962 and I have to say it doesn't sound as good as the original but it plays really well. One complaint though, why when spending this much do they not set it up properly. Neck is smooth but could do with a stone, nice tone from pickups, still very good and usable, finish good. It should last the next decade but maybe not 50 years like my original. Invest people.
