DIARY OF A WIMPY KID [DVD]

I liked this film (and book) because the characters are light and comical. The film made me laugh. It was brilliant (as spoken by my son Jack age 10)

A great movie for the family, with enough to keep us older folk entertained whilst the youngsters get some fun. Pretty true to the original book our lad (now 10) has watched a few times and still wanted to see it again so we couldn't resist getting it through Amazon Video for instant playback - nice that we can also take a copy with us on Kindle or iPad/iPhone (4 copies, apparently!) so we could watch on the move or on hols.

...and girls probably, but I have 3 boys aged 7, 9 and 11. They all absolutely loved this film. The humour is very obvious (great for my son with Asbergers!)The message on the importance of friendship is done very well without pushing it in your face. As always a film is rarely as good as the book it comes from but my boys, who avidly read the books and are impatiently waiting for the next one, give this film a thumbs up!

watched as a family and both children and adults really enjoyed it. nice Saturday night watch. our children are 9 and 7 and love the books so were quoting it word for word.

This generally likeable kids comedy is a family staple, however there is one thing that I do agree with other reviewers. The main character, Greg Heffley is actually a horrible lead character for which the film is focused. He is a terrible friend and I’m not quite sure what the author/film director was trying to portray with him. He has to be one of the most unlikeable lead characters I have seen, in the hundreds of kids films I’ve seen. Watching from an objective point of view, I struggle to find the lessons learned from him. He tries to be popular, and isn’t . He is not a good friend and loses his friend. He has a poor relationship with pretty much everyone else. I know, ‘hey it’s a kids film’, but what do we learn from this. Other than that, the characters are good and there are a couple of funny moments, so not a total loss. Rating 3/5

It arrived 2 days after ordering and was cheaper to buy than to hire!! Brilliant. The boys loved it and the grown-ups found it very funny also. When I say grown-ups, I'm only 63 years of age, spent 42 years as a civil servant, been retired 3 years, but still don't know what I want to be when I properly grow up!!!! Anyway I thought the DVD was very funny.

Bought this for my seven-year-old grandson recently. He had heard other kids at school talking about "Diary of a Wimpy Kid". I wanted to encourage him to have his Mom read the book aloud to him as well as viewing the DVD. He absolutely loves this series. It helps him to understand the common experiences he has at school and play with other kids like Wimpy". We discuss the situations later and gain insight into why certain behaviors work or don't work and about the qualities of having a good friendship and relationship with siblings and parents. The author is so insightful in how he decides on a story line and develops the characters. I purchased the next book and DVD as well called "Rodrick Rules", as Rodrick is the older brother who gives his younger brother a hard time. Again, this story was a huge hit with my grandson and he loves to view it over and over. It creates a great deal of laughter and is a terrific video for the entire family to watch. So glad to have discovered this series! Purchased online from Amazon. Always a rapid response/delivery time. Product arrives in perfect condition. I trust Amazon.

I saw this movie when it came out in the movies with my 2 girls, at the time age 8 and 10, along with their 2 friends and my friend. As an adults and childs point of view, the movie was really funny and entertaining. We thought it was awesome and a must have for our video collection. My nephews who are 5 and 8 just saw it for the first time and watched it over and over again 3 days straight, they thought it was hilarious. It's a great family movie and the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid "Roderick Rules" that is out in theaters is another one will be purchasing as soon as it is available. It is an awesome sequel, we were cracking up the whole time. My kids have also been enjoying the Diary of a Wimpy Kid chapter books for years now. If your child is into reading or even not, maybe it will get them interested. My one daughter who is not that into reading loves these books, because of the comic strips throughout, she has even started making her own comics. I have only good things to say about this movie, and anything pertaining to it.
