Pure 90's anime galore!
A violent, over the top, action delight that embodies the adult content that anime from the 90s wasn't afraid of showing. Certainly not for children or easily offended people, because this 3 episode OVA doesn't hold back in its adult content. Considering also that these episodes are censored, especially the Evil Town episode, there's still plenty of violence, nudity, and more to show you that 90's anime didn't mess around.

WRONG INFO & MISINFORMATION
First of all, this is a violent anime, make no mistakes about it, and don't take its name lightly. It contains adult themes like nudity, cannibalism, senseless violence, rape, etc. Its content justifies the classification of 18, and by having this classification it should have the complete uncensored OVA's. Unfortunately that's not the case, the Manga release does not have the complete episodes, many violent scenes (physical or psychological) were cut and the original work lost a bit of its originality. Unsatisfied with that, this version only has a dubbed version, there's no original Japanese language with English subtitles like described in the product details! To finalise, the total length of the three OVA's are 140 mins, not 60! The product details should be more like this:Name: Violence Jack Vol 1-3 CENSORED VERSIONFormat: Animated, DUBBED, PALLanguage ENGLISHSubtitles: NON EXISTENTNumber of discs: 1Classification: 18Studio: Manga EntertainmentRun Time: 140 minutesTo those that state "Disapointing, the animation is lacking, and the storyline is virtually non-existent." and similar reviews, I suggest a bit of research about Violence Jack. This OVA's are based on a series of manga story arches and are not sequential. Jack's attitudes and actions change a lot and that's because it's very hard to cram more than 40 manga volumes into three movies. It is a common option in Japanese animation to do so, so, please don't be so hard on criticising it. It is very well animated according to traditional standards and must be evaluated as period piece.

Good ol' fashioned gore!!!!
This OVA series is legendary most of all by the fact that it was created by the master of animation himself, Go Nagai! Creator of such greats as Devilman, Devilman Lady, Giant Robo, Cutey Honey & Mazinkaiser, all drawn in his comic book style, which is the reason why a lot of folk complain about the animation being crummy! It's painstakingly hand drawn at 100 frames a second, it is old school and Devilman is done in the same style and is still running to this day in Japan and thats 20+ years!!!!Violence Jack, what can you say about the guy, a giant who runs around killing the scum of the earth with the aid of a trusty jack knife that is 3 times bigger than your head! The story starts with a popular scenario of the devastation of the Japan via the kanto planes earthquake, where the few survivors are trapped in the ruins beneath the city and are trying to escape from the horror of the hell hole they live in and to get back to civilisation. However violence between the groups is making this harder and harder every day, then they dig up the giant and the so called hero of the story Jack, Violence Jack! Violence Jacks purpose is to protect a small group of females from the primal and some what demonic other groups, who reflect the true evil nature of man; their greed and unquenchable lust! With a mere swipe of Jacks wrist these foes are cut up into blood drenched pieces of flesh! Jack was found to help bring a new age of piece by ridding the earth of the evil that has festered from the ashes of destruction! Now that the synopsis is over! The series is very basic to say the least but it does have a lot of blood, guts and gore throwing in a few naked woman and the usual trials they are put through in anime. The storyline is tried and tested and very little thought was put into the script for the 2nd & 3rd episode as they are full of cliches! But in the Uk these episodes where merely pilots, in Japan the series is as big as Evangelion and is far more graphic than the Uk's version. The only thing that really annoys me is that the animation does change, 'cause like I said they are pilot episodes so different animators where used and they brought in a whole new even more tried and tested theme of Jack's origins, which whre only hinted in the 1st 2!Overall I thoroughly enjoyed it just don't expect to have in depth conversations over the content!

Sketchy Animation, Sketchier Story.
I wasnt expecting much from this one, but I thought I'd give it a go anyway. Disapointing, the animation is lacking, and the storyline is virtually non-existent. It vaguely follows the "adventures" of a 15ft invincible man called "Violence Jack", who after being released from a tomb after a series of apocalyptic distasters wreck tokyo, proceeds to go on what can really only be described as a mindless killing spree in a Mad Max-esque world.I can really only recomend the aptly named "Violence Jack" to fans of random gore and, well, violence.
