These glamorous showgirls have everything a girl could want--except engagement rings. In a quest for true love, Lorelei (Marilyn Monroe) and her gold digger pal Dorothy (Jane Russell) set sail on a luxury-liner bound for France. But the pair hits rocky waters when a manipulative detective, an over-aged, over sexed millionaire (Charles Coburn) and the entire men's Olympic team try to put an anchor in their marriage-minded mischief. It's a wild and joyously funny ride across the Atlantic as our bathing beauties plan and plot a way to land their men.

Great movie
Amazing how quality never ages...My daughter wanted to watch it and I went along expecting to fall asleep, but this is a keen reminder that Hollywood produced Genius in its golden years...Same feeling as when my dad forced me to watch Singing in the Rain

Must Watch Classic!
One of the all time ultimate girls night in movies! Once a month me and my closest 4 friends have a good old fashioned sleepover, and we are all in our thirties LOL we really should know better by now!We take it in turn hosting the sleepover and send husbands/ boyfriends and kids somewhere else for the night (yep its that bad!) and pick a couple of movies and chill out. But anyway I went completely off track...Everyone loved Gentlemen Prefer Blondes for so many reasons! Marilyn Monroe is at her absolute best playing the ditzy blonde especially during the "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" performance that's just brilliant and Jane Russell playing the ballsy brunette seems way ahead of its time. Monroe and Russell's on screen chemistry seems so natural you can imagine them having a blast during film.If you haven't seen it I can't recommend it enough, some of the humour is obviously a bit dated but if you can get past that and take it for what it was and still is a brilliant cast and some of the most iconic scenes in Hollywood history!

Fun
Dorothy (Jane Russell) chaperones Lorelei (Marilyn Monroe) to Paris where they will be met by Lorelei's fiancée Gus (Tommy Noonan). However, a private detective, Ernie (Elliott Reid), is also hired to report on Lorelei's behaviour during the boat crossing. Lorelei loves her diamonds and her meeting with a wealthy diamond profiteer (Charles Coburn) on the boat is a recipe for disaster. How will any misunderstandings be resolved when Dorothy and Lorelei reach Paris? Will they find love....?....yeah, of course they will. It's a light comedy that keeps you watching and is actually quite good. Despite Marilyn Monroe's reputation as a dimwit, she plays on it well in this film and is central to many humorous sequences. In fact, the whole cast delivers a good performance with amusing lines coming from all angles. A special mention to George Winslow who plays Henry Spofford III (..Are you a burglar?..) and Charles Coburn who is always funny. Russell and Monroe sing some catchy songs and it's all delivered in glorious Technicolour. Great colour, a fun cast and an entertaining film.

GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES from Fox Home Ent DVD
There are many DVD versions of this film with reviews all muddled up. That's OK if you just need to know about the film, but it can be confusing if you want to be sure about the quality. So my review is for the 20th Century Fox Home Ent DVD released 9 April 2012, with big pic of Marilyn (only) with her arms raised, and the incorrect billing off MM first then Jane. I admit to being a bit surprised at the 4.3 ratio (bars at both sides), when the reverse DVD cover plainly says 16.9 ratio, which, to me means it should fill the whole screen. However, 4.3 or not, this is a wonderful transfer, brilliant colour, crisp clear picture, slightly variable sound (the musical numbers), and good optional subtitles. No extras, but a terrific price (currently my copy £4.40). Howard Hawks was a muti talented director. This is the man who gave us "Red River", and this sparkiling, fun musical with both stars on top form. MM couldn't act to save her life here, but you can't keep your eyes off her. Sheer magic, and her song "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" surely ranks as one of Hollywood's great musical numbers/scenes. Speaking of songs/scenes..About 20 mins in there is the most wonderful, utterly camp number I can ever remember seeing...My wife and I actually laughed out loud it was so OTT...Jane dances and shimmies around 20 very fit nearly nude young men dressed in flesh coloured briefs. It has to be seen to be believed, and even then...At 87 minutes there isn't a dull moment. It's a shame that the 2 leading men are dull compared to the ladies, but any actor of the time (except perhaps for Mitchum) would have been hard pressed to compete. Russell or Monroe? Monroe or Russell. Two so different actresses and they compliment each other perfectly. Dated yes, but still great fun.
