Starcatcher's production-helmed by Grammy winner Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile, Jason Isbell) is more stripped-down than that of 'The Battle at Garden's Gate', allowing the instrumentation to shine. Take the album's haunting, elegiac first single, 'Meeting the Master,' which at first pairs rich, wistful acoustic guitars with Josh's yearning vocals, before blooming into a classic Greta Van Fleet rock 'n' roll anthem with a majestic guitar solo and pummeling drums. Starcatcher is the sound of four musicians amplifying one another's strengths, across snarling, barnstorming rock ('The Falling Sky'), meditative, gnarled hard rock ('Sacred the Thread'), acoustic-driven pastoral folk-rock ('Farewell for Now'), and stinging psychedelic rock ('The Indigo Streak'). Occasional organ or keyboard flourishes pop out of the mix, adding texture and melodrama.

Fab Album
Just bought this on vinyl (clear as well..bonus).Been a fan since they started and seen them 3 times.Gotta say, I think this might be their best album yet. Full of power filled tracks, great production. Brilliant playing and vocals.Buy it..any rock fan will love this ..at least Greta Van Fleet can continue to fly the rock flag for years to come thankfully π€πΈπ€

Where is the musical development?
Boy have i tried to really like this band. Indeed their debut contained some retro but refreshing nods to a bygone age when bands seemed more colourful, adventurous and not tied to the shackles of record companies that demanded an immediate return on their investment. Yes the influence of Led Zep was apparent specifically the guitar tuning. However 3 albums in and the band seem already stuck in a sameness of sound and delivery. The vocals, to my ears, cannot be compared to Plant's in either tone nor register but possibly in delivery only. However the histrionics seem to be getting more pronounced with ear splitting caterwauling and screeching that consistently detracts from the music. There is very little variety which Zeppelin were so famous for. There is no fun but an over anxious seriousness that becomes draining after a while. Lighten up guys the world is in bad enough shape. However there are some decent music especially The Indigo Streak with a superb earworm riff and The Falling Sky with an stuttering Zepplinish riff. But after the so-called 'difficult' 2nd album i was hoping the band would expand their musical horizons. However Starcatcher is not that album. I'm sure fans will lap this up and find my review boorish but i simply find the album, like the previous, unmemorable.
