This course is well done by Joel Sartore who brings his expertise to the projects he photographs, but without being too technical or obtuse. He is a good teacher and communicates well. But, the true value of the course, as far as I was concerned, is that he photographs his projects in the real world conditions that other photographers confront every day — crowds of tourists, bad weather, unexpected complications, etc. His project of photographing at the National Mall, for example, demonstrates the ways he uses and enfolds the crowds of tourists into his pictures. I found this aspect of the course the most helpful.

Highly recommend this course! I'm a long time photographer and have just discovered Joel's work. I've watched the Art of Travel Photography and his series on Fundamentals of Photography and loved them both. As a professional photographer, I've watched numerous programs and attended a large number of seminars and workshops. Joel's photographic style and philosophy is the first that has truly resonated with me. This is the best course for all photographers. The content is helpful in travel situations and way beyond.

It's just OK. Not the high quality work of Joel Sartore's Fundamentals of Photography, a 6 DVD set. Seemed like it was done quickly and on the cheap.

Very good DVD on learning how to be an travel photographer. I would recommend viewing this DVD if they are planning a trip and want to take good pictures.

I love the dvd but am disappointed that I wasn't sent the book that comes with it. I have ordered dvds from Great Courses in the past and they always include a companion book.

Learning from a National Geographic pro might have been daunting, but not so with Joel Sartore. He seems like a guy you'd like to invite over for a barbecue. He's down-to-earth, approachable, lays out his ideas simply in plain language, and is a joy to spend time with so it's easy to watch this over and over again until the concepts become second nature.The DVD also has assignments so you can practice what he shares. This DVD doesn't just apply to Travel Photography, it applies to taking great pictures period!
