My symptoms were over-speed, vibration and variable speed - this 100% fixed it on Vitamix 5200
I've had my Vitamix 5200 for over 12 years (works great). I started having some glitches (no power - the power). Then the variable speed would really act up. My symptoms were over-spin (motor moving way too fast - the blender would spin on the holder), vibration (it would spin, but the motor would stop/start several times a second - this created massive vibrations), and lastly the speed dial would go up & down (probably due to the vibration. I couldn't leave the blender alone.I replaced the rheostat and it works great (top speed is just right - variable speed is correct, no vibration). THIS is why you buy Vitamix (great company).
