Great book to add to our little Early Reader Library
Our daughter thinks she is the history expert at school, it might have to do with Dad’s fascination with history, the books we read and movies we watch. Roman history certainly captures her interest. She has a decent background in the subject, knows about some of the emperors and main events in classical history. We use these DK Young Reader books for guided reading. They are perfect for that as the chapters are of good size for a single session and the content generally triggers a little debate, in particular since I usually try to read and discuss additional material with her. The storyline is generally well composed despite being concise. And most importantly; it makes sense, unlike many other books for early readers. And invariably this series is great for adults to brush up knowledge about a certain story or historic figure. As always the DK Young Reader books are very well presented, colourful and very well illustrated. The Pompeii book in this series is no exception. It comes hard-bound with a red page finder string. The choice of books and topics in this series should also be applauded; it’s quite varied and diverse. So quite pleased again.

Easy read for him but still interesting and good for ...
Bought it for my son, aged 9yrs, as we are visiting Pompeii shortly. Easy read for him but still interesting and good for him to understand the impact of a volcanic eruption and the ruins he will soon see. Best for ages 7-8yrs

Ready for the exhibition!
I bought this book for my 6 year old daughter (who is a fluent reader) before we went to the British Museum's Pompeii exhibition in May 2013. She read it by herself several times, and my 12 year old son also found it interesting. When we went to the exhibition my daughter was able to point out several things mentioned in her book! It was a great introduction to history and I noticed it was also on sale in the British Museum shop. We have several of the series and I would recommend them all.

History grippingly retold
We do have quite a few books from Usborne's history series already, so we knew this would be good. It's a gripping read, and the language and illustrations make the events accessible for today's children. My eight-year-old couldn't put it down and brought it to school the very next day where the teacher made it the 'book of the week'. Complements the curriculum beautifully. History as it should be retold!

Pompeii for children!
Pompeii (Illustrated by Emmanuel Ceriser and written by Karen Ball). What do you like about the book?I liked when Vesuvius erupted and everyone was running to safety , when the gladiators sleeping and they woke to the sound of Vesuvius erupting and finally I liked the photo of Pompeii. Is there anything that you did not like? The map was at the back of the book not the front apart from that I liked everything else. If the map was at the front it would be easier to look at where everything happened.A Maple Class review by Cameron aged 8.

Emotive, fascinating and gripping.
The story is told well with detailed descriptions of the suffering the people of Pompeii undoubtedly went through in the moments following the eruption of Vesuvius. Also includes details about the discovery of Pompeii and how archaeologists used plaster to show the shapes of the bodies that fell beneath the ash long ago. Fascinating and gripping.
