Hopeful that this will be useful when little one starts school
It's slightly unfair for me to review this book given my son is four and the target range is five to seven. However, both he and I have found the book useful and entertaining. With the colourful pages breaking up the 10 minute a day tasks its meant that he feels as though he is achieving something by getting through the book. He has also asked me if he can do more than just the 2 pages which shows he must be enjoying it. The stickers certainly help, too!Why four stars but not five? only because I think these educational books can only be judged on outcomes, i.e. did they actually help out the student...as we're not at that stage yet, I can't make that judgement call.

Bright, colurful and helps kids in the modern age of pervasive spellcheckers.
The book itself is obviously bright and colourful. It's quite well printed and the covers are well protected against tears and spills. The inner, work pages are thinner paper stock because this is a work book designed to be written on by your child. Would suggest working in pencil so mistakes can be rectified. The book is linked to the national curriculum so this can be used to help keep up with their peers or give them a head start if they are keen to try it.The inclusion of the answers of obviously a confidence booster for kids working through these books. With the advent of the modern age where keyboards and spellcheckers are everywhere some basic spelling skills will serve a child well in later life and helps them make sense of the printed word, meaning they might be more likely to read for pleasure.

Great for school holidays
I’ve got 4 of these books for my 5 year old to keep things fresh in his mind over the school holidays and keep him entertained. We rotate around the books 4 days a week doing 2 pages a day. The age range and difficulties of the puzzle do vary as you go through the book, but he’s been fine with the ones at the beginning of each so far. He really likes picking A sticker for each page after he’s completed them too. Depending on the age range you get these for they will probably want some adult help in reading the instructions and helping with some examples, but after that my kiddo has been happy to finish each page alone and then have it “marked”

My teacher son used CGP as a kid, now he recommends it to his class.
CGP books have been used in our house for over 27 years. My son learned with them whilst having fun, and now he's recommending them to his class. This book is aimed at younger children, and is in 10-minute bytes so as not to overload them, and a combination of pictures and word games allows kids to practise and improve their English spellings. There's an answers section so that the responsible adult can check the work, and there are achievement stars to be awarded, just like teachers use in kids' books in class during marking. Practice makes perfect and CGP manages to make it fun, too.

Easy learning
My 6 yr old son does struggle a bit with spelling, but he loves these books. They are colourful and interactive - and he really has taken to them (this one, and the maths one). He often asks to do more pages ! A definite win !

spelling book
A well laid out and nicely presented spelling book. Outer cover is wipe clean and when using the inner pages I would suggest using a pencil so that mistakes can be erased. Answers are given at the back of the book too. It is very important that young children learn how to spell basic words correctly even in a world of computers etc! The ten minute suggested tasks are easy to follow and the added bonus of stickers is great for any child. Great book
