This book is amazing. Anyone playing the guitar should have it.

Great Exercises, well communicated and All round great/useful book. would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to improve as a musician

If you buy a book and expect it to directly teach you how to be more creative, you will always be disappointed.This book, however, doesn't make that promise.Though the title, "creative guitar", may be easily misinterpreted, this isn't some cheap trick. Admittedly, a more fitting title would be "helping you to learn and improve harder techniques to give you a wider skillset with which to be creative" but that doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.Overall, the content is great. It shows you around techniques from an angle you may not have seen before and it makes you listen to sounds you probably haven't heard come from your playing before.This sparks off your own creativity and encourages you to explore on your own to set off your own creative chain-reaction."Creative Guitar 2" is an excellent instructional volume that I believe would deserve 5*s if it weren't for a couple of niggling points:I think there is a little too much basic instruction in each section, a book called "creative guitar 2: advanced techniques" isn't really aiming to pick up beginners so the first few tapping/alternate picking/economy picking examples seem a bit redundant and not in the spirit of the book. I'd rather have a couple more of the interesting examples instead.Additionally, the exercises at the ends of some sections seem a bit lazy, like they were just put there to fill space and are not particularly inspired.All that said, this is definitely worth a purchase.

Amazing book! Guthrie is God!

Guthrie Govan, who is also a regular contributor to "Guitar Techniques" magazine, and an immensely talented guitarist in his own right, has pulled out just about every stop in these two books.The first book is aimed at beginners & intermediate guitarists who are hitting creative 'blocks'. Each concept is well explained, well laid out and highly accessable, covering many of the more common questions that guitarists have in a concise, understanderble manner.The second book, however, is truly scary! Amongst other things covered here are 8-finger tapping, and techniques to emulate other instruments on the guitar. Any advanced guitarist who is starved of inspiration will find plenty of great ideas right here.The two books (both with accompanying CDs) run the spectrum of every innovaive guitar technique that I can actually think of. Probably one of the best instructional books on guitar that I have ever read.
