Cambridge International AS and A Level Computer Science Coursebook (Cambridge International Examinations)

I, like many teachers, have been waiting for a book to accompany the new CIE Computer Science course. For the most part, this book is useful and informative; however, the publishers clearly did not wish to support separate AS and A2 publications, that or the author was given a too tight deadline. As a result, too many sections are lacking in critical detail.I have gone through a number of recent exam papers, checking the quality of the book with these papers and too many times it falls short of detail, or no coverage at all. I hold that no student could use this book alone to achieve a high grade in the course. A good teacher will supplement this book with additional material of their own to give students the most realistic chance of high achievement.

Useful book

A lot of the content is good but many explanations seem rushed and fail to define technical terms before using them. There are also quite a few mistakes in the source code.

The book arrived in good condition

The text is verbose where it needs to be precise and concise. Syllabus coverage is patchy. This is not a book for a student targeting top grades.

The content is decent but there has clearly been very little quality control. There are errors in the code all over the place. A lot of the Python code, if entered as written in the book, doesn't run because of syntax and logic errors.EDIT: I'm finding even more errors every day. This book is a total mess. No quality control whatsoever. Some of the code even crashes the computer due to attempting to create infinite DAT files.Moved down to 1 star. Do not buy!!!

Not very clearly written and has question sections at the end of each chapter but NO ANSWERS for them unless you buy the teachers CD for £73. Wish i hadnt bought it.
