I was about to go on a driving holiday in USA & Canada.. I have a 30 yr old Tom Tom with a U.S.A. / Canada SD card and a 7 year old Garmin( which could be updated) which only covered the lower49 states of the USA.I felt this was unsatisfactory and wondered about purchasing a new machine from Halfords before going or buying a Garmin from Best Buys on arrival. Both options were noticeably more expensive. I wondered also if the hired car would have a GPS installed. I was lead to believe this was possibly an option but unrealistically expensive. Hence the purchases. At £60 or so I thought it worth the risk. Absolutely delighted. Unmarked generic box arrived promptly. Unit looked brand new.Did say to “ reset to US factory settings on arrival in US”, which I did.Worked exceptionally well. Any criticisms?Cable to connect Garmin to unit stretched a little bit. Could have been better. Software got a little confused at the border. Trick was when in US set it to street/ town nearest border in US and then reset for Canadian destination when over the border. These were trivial grumbles though. Unit was a godsend. Delighted with it.

Sat Nav stopped working two days into our trip and left us to rely on maps etc. it does not switch on now and shows no sign of life. The Garmin with USA and Canada maps was meant to make our road trip easier but instead has given us a hassle we did not expect. Would not recommend this item to anyone and certainly not worth the money. Albeit it was a refurb machine you would expect it to last longer than two days. Not happy.

This gps would not find street addresses in New England unless I was within 20 miles of the destination. Kept saying it could not locate. Also had issues selecting a nearby address, including the state, only to get directions towards another state! Had to use my phone as a backup, paying some data charges, but useful enough to keep it. It worked enough to use it and saved me paying the exorbitant cost of a GPS the car rental companies charge. Just a shame it wouldn't work half the time (not finding addresses).

The unit is excellent and in perfect condition, but this model has a design issue that means you can not change any setting or destination if the unit is in motion and as it takes a long time to find a satellite, it means you have to pull over and stop in the open to set up the destination and not have a passenger do it while moving.

This is perfect for my forthcoming trip to America
