Used for a Greek Tortoise, Praying Mantis and a Hamster. Great stuff!
My greek tortoise loves this bedding. Well, I can't say that for sure, since he doesn't talk. But if he did, he would tell everyone about how he buries himself in this bedding all day and sleeps for hours on end, like the lazy jerk he is.This is perfect arid tortoise substrate. The wood chips are in nice, smooth little bits that aren't twiggy and splintery. It's easy to pick out his food remnants and weird little turtle poops, leaving his pen fresh and clean.I also used this bedding for a pet praying mantis. When they're babies, they're the size of a staple, and easy to lose in other wood bedding types. They can't hide so easily in this stuff. When she got big enough to eat crickets, this bedding was easy to clean the cricket remnants out of, again, because the wood bits are so smooth and homogenous. This bedding isn't very dusty. It would be an excellent bedding for rats, hamsters and mice that are more prone to respiratory infections from especially dusty wood substrates, like pine. It's also pretty absorbent and doesn't have much of a wood odor, so your house won't smell like a hamster cage 24/7. (unless you like that stuff) Plus it's very nice-looking, for wood chips.Until someone or something convinces me otherwise, this will always be my bedding of choice for my small animals.

Great substrate for our tortoise.
We use this for our Eastern Hermann's toirtoise and he loves it. It allows him to burrow easily and is also able to retain some moisture to help keep the humidity up. I do spray his substrate once or twice a day to keep up the humidity. I originally mixed a little coconut coir with this but it seemed to stick to our tortoise and eventually just sink down to the bottom. I like that this can be reused, I have taken it all out and soaked it in hot water then rinsed with cool water and placed it back in his home with no problems. This is a really good product and it is cheaper online than it is in the pet stores around where I live.

SSSSThanks!
Highly recommended. I balked at the price at first. But Reptibark is washable, reusable, and you can put in your yard if you wish; Lasts a long time. I only change it occasionally.. Best of all, it smells nice! Reptibark makes my ball python the easiest animal in the house to care for! (We have a dog, a cat, and mice!). The bag is enough for at least 2-3 cage changes for a 40 gal aquarium. Rocky also has a large plastic hive which contains a layer of peat moss. This mimics the rodent dens that he would normally seek out to reside in. The Reptibark does an excellent job of recreating the feel and scent of the forest floor. (Ball pythons come from Central Africa). Also, there is no problem with misting the tank. Reptibark doesn't mildew, mold, or grow fungus. Given that ball pythons like a humidity of 60 % or more; this is important. I don't trust other types of substrate to do as well.

Great product (so far!)
I bought both this one, the Zoo Med ReptiBark, and a bag of the Zoo Med Forest Floor Bedding. The ReptiBark is nice small chunks of bark. The Forest Floor was more like shredded wood, small pieces but full of slivers and rough edges. Maybe it depends on what type of animal you're using it for, but I really didn't like the other one, especially when there's this other option available. Looking at other reviews, I haven't noticed any problems with mites at all, and like I said, it's the other version that has splinters. The cost of the ReptiBark was very reasonable and I'm hoping the hot water refresh works well, because then the relative cost will be even less since I won't need to buy new bedding as often.

Perfect for my Russian tortoise!
My tort likes to dig in the substrate! I've purchased this multiple times, but the last time there were springtails in the substrate because it was moister when I opened it. I went onto Reddit because I thought they were mites, but they were identified as springtails and are not a harm to my tortoise. They actually eat decomposing things like leftover food and tortoise poo. I usually remove the leftover food, so the springtails are just thriving off of any moisture and poo. At first, I was grossed out, but honestly, it's fine. They don't fly and are minuscule and aren't bothering my tortoise. Hopefully the next bag I buy doesn't have them.

Great for building varied terrain, holds moisture well
We have a 20+ year old turtle and she loves this bark! She's a land turtle, but goes for swims in her small aquarium pool and bath tub.The bark lasts long, has a mild woody scent (not too strong), and it's great for reptile burrowing. It has a nice texture so you can build some hills and valleys for your pets inside their home.Since we started using this bark, our turtle has been a lot more curious and active. True, she mostly still hides and sleeps all day because she's a turtle, but it's fun to watch her explore and dig in the bark every now and then.If you want to keep your aquarium damp for some reason, the bark retains moisture for a really long time. One bag is good to fill the floor of our medium-sized aquarium.

Perfect for Tortoises
I am using this substrate for my 2 tortoises (hermans and sulcata). I have used the forest floor substrate, reptichip, and other coconut substrate and this one is by far my favorite.1.) It smells good and is easy for my tortoises to walk on or dig in.2.) Its not dusty, my tortoises stay clean and when I remove it from my terrarium (to clean the tank and put a new substrate in); I'm not inhaling a ton of dust and the room around stays clean. This was the biggest problem I have had with other substrates, they're too dusty.3.) Its a great price for the product. I had to purchase 2 of the 24 quart packages to fill my ~4 foot by ~2 1/2 foot terrarium.Obviously, will be purchasing again!

Bark for my Ball Python, works great!
Got it for my ball python enclosure. Put this on top of some eco earth and it works wonders for humidity. The smell is quite strong, which Id expect for literal bark, but I left it outside for a bit and it got better. He is able to move it aside and make indents where he sleeps, so theres that.

Great product
It was a little bit concerned that this was a bit more coarse and irregular than our previous fir bark substrate, but our snake seems to love it just the same. In fact it might even be looser and easier to dig in!

The best of the best !!!
