I successfully tested 14K white gold and sterling silver with this kit.The stone won't hurt your ring. It's more like a polish mark than a scratch that it leaves behind.

Product arrived late. No Instructions were Included with the package. Title stated, " Gold, Silver, and Platinum Testing Acid Solutions Kit With Test Stone" which to me sounded like all bottles came in one kit. All items came without a kit to put bottles in. I will say this, the price was a good deal even without anything to put the bottles in.

Easily identifies the grade of silver or gold. I haven't tried it with platinum but I assume it works just as well. This kit is fun and super useful. If you like to hunt for scrap silver or gold you 100% need to buy this kit.If you store this kit in a place where it cold get knocked around make sure you take measures to keep the bottles upright because the chamicals will spill out of the bottles no matter how tightly you screw the caps on. Also don't store these bottles in a container or drawer with anything important because a small amount of acid vapor can have a big effect on metals and other things.

It is good to know exactly what you buying

This kit helped me identify a couple of things that were supposed to be sterling and weren't. You can't rely on hallmarks or stamps anymore. Anyone can stamp something "sterling" or ".925," but that doesn't make it so. Apparently, it's lucrative nowadays to make cheap, base metal chains in bulk, stamp them ".925" and price them like "a really good deal." Not all fake silver is magnetic, either, as I discovered.The instructions included with the kit are pretty good, but watching online videos helped a lot. There are a couple of different ways to test for sterling with this kit (with the "sterling" solution and the 18K solution). You will see a different "tell" with the two methods, and it's a good way to cross-check yourself while you get the hang of it. It may not get you a refund from an unscrupulous seller, but at least you'll know not to buy from them again.
