holy moly
The media could not be loaded. ok so here is my review. for the love of god please where gloves when applying this stuff and eye protection and a REAL fume face mask. this is super important. if your not painting outside go full PPE. don't go to hospital with a suspected heart attack like i did after inhaling varnish for 1 hour. ok boring stuff over, here's the good bit.you can sponge this on, gives decent results especially if you go with the grain. tin recommends brushing, i cant brush, and it was crap for me and i ended up making it run. someone with more experience could get way better results then me in good light. So i opted for the following.i contacted Johnstons to ask for help but they just said, brush it on, either way i bought a spray gun for my compressor. i diluted the varnish on a ration 10:1, cleaned surfaces with white spirits before spraying, i was doing a 50% overlap with my cheap spray gun. i get 2 coats down, it touch dries in 2-4hrs so u can go again. after 2nd coat i WET sanded it with 400 grit, now im applying it on wood sanded to 400 grit. the bench in video and picture is sanded to 400 grit, then applied a final coat. (second bench i sanded the 2nd coat to 800 grit, would have done 600 but only had 800). with these steps you'll get a really nice mirror finish. its a beautiful amber finish on very light coloured birch plywood. this plywood i used is BB grade cabinet plywood.i gave the product 3 stars for "easy to use" because in all honesty, you need to be ready. preparation is key. have paint finer and rags at hand to clean everything after, brushes, sponges guns, cups etc. if you spray it like i did, (i sprayed in shed) your entire shed will get sticky.all being said the results speak for themselves, if you take care to clean each coat with a rag and white spirits to make sure its super clean, you'll get fantastic results. I emailed Johnston's and told them they should update their tin with correct drying times and that it can 100% be sprayed.drying times i experienced are, touch dry: 2-4hrs depending on how thick the application is. if its sticky after 4, you applied too much.Cured: 16-24 hrs like it says on tinhope this helps, this really is a good product if you take care the whole process. Bench is now outside in the rain and water just runs off no problem. i like it so much i bought a 2nd tin already and this will be my goto product for outside stuff.

Johnstone's Woodcare Outdoor Yacht Varnish: A Garden Table Transformation!
I recently used Johnstone's Woodcare Outdoor Yacht Varnish on my garden table, and I couldn't be more thrilled with the results. This varnish is not just good; it's outstanding! One of the standout features of this product is its thickness. It goes on smoothly and provides excellent coverage, even on older wood surfaces. The transformation it brought to my weathered garden table was remarkable. The varnish not only protected the wood but also enhanced its natural beauty, leaving it with a glossy and rejuvenated finish.Durability is key when it comes to outdoor woodcare, and Johnstone's Yacht Varnish delivers on this front. My table has been exposed to various weather conditions, and this varnish has proven to be resilient, keeping the wood protected and looking great season after season.Application was a breeze thanks to the clear instructions provided, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced DIY enthusiasts. The 750ml size was more than enough for my project, offering great value for the quality it delivers. In short, Johnstone's Woodcare Outdoor Yacht Varnish is a game-changer for anyone looking to protect and beautify their outdoor wooden furniture. It's a five-star product that not only met but exceeded my expectations. My garden table looks better than ever, and I couldn't be happier with the results. Highly recommended!

Good quality varnish
I've only used this varnish for a quick pre-winter treatment on part of my wooden patio doors but the results are very good. Application is easy and most importantly it is absorbed and hardens to a clear smooth hard finish that protects the wood. Next summer the whole doors will be rubbed down and given a treatment of this varnish and from what I've seen so far it won't be a hard job and the results will be very pleasing.

Wonderful clear yacht varnish
Great yacht varnish for outside.I sanded pallet table down (manually), varnished once, next day did same (light sanding, damp cloth wipes, cloth dry, wait couple minutes). This was repeated twice more. So, table varnished three times in total. You can see changes in photos. I love the natural wood (unvarnished) but know table would be ruined in rains. I'd highly recommend. Yes, a noticeable golden colour comes through, but I think it's subtle enough, beautiful & preserves the wood. I'm not great at DIY, but found an old pallet, fitted other pallet planks onto 'table' & varnished. I'm very happy with results - environmentally friendly ('upcycling', etc.), fun to make &, apart from just over tenner for 750ml of varnish, free.Just make sure you check weather forecast between coats, so varnish can dry in the sun.Highly recommended
