Small but Mighty — The Perfect Rear Light for Every Ride
As someone who’s a big fan of OLIGHT products, the RN 120 C Tail Light is another example of why I keep coming back to this brand. I’ve had this rear light on my bike for over a year now, and it’s hands down the best tail light I’ve ever used. It’s bright, dependable, and thoughtfully designed. For something so compact, it packs a serious punch when it comes to visibility and safety. ⸻ Visibility and Light Performance Don’t let the 120 lumens fool you—this thing is bright. It’s not a gimmicky, weak tail light like so many cheap options out there. The RN 120 C is highly visible even in daylight, and in low light or nighttime conditions, it absolutely shines (pun intended). The light pattern is clean and wide, which helps make you visible from multiple angles—huge for road riding. The multiple modes (steady, flash, breathing, etc.) are all practical, and switching between them is easy. I usually ride with it in the smart mode that adjusts brightness based on ambient light, and it’s been very effective. I’ve had drivers comment that they could see me from far away, which is exactly what you want from a tail light. ⸻ Design and Build It’s compact, lightweight, and sleek. You hardly notice it on the seat post, but it looks great and doesn’t add any bulk. The materials are solid, and after a year of use—including plenty of rides in the rain—it still looks and performs like new. It’s IPX6 water-resistant, and I’ve tested that thoroughly. The mounting system is simple but secure. It’s easy to take off when locking your bike somewhere, but it never moves or shakes loose while riding, even on rough pavement or trails. ⸻ Battery and Charging Battery life is excellent. Even on higher settings, it lasts several long rides before I need to recharge. On flash or eco modes, it can go for days. USB-C charging is a huge plus—it’s fast and convenient, and the battery indicator lets you know when you’re running low. I’ve never once been caught with a dead light, which speaks to both the battery life and the accuracy of the indicator. ⸻ Pros: • Super bright and visible, even in daylight • Smart mode adjusts brightness based on ambient light • Compact and lightweight, doesn’t get in the way • Durable and waterproof (IPX6) • Easy, secure mounting system • Long battery life and quick USB-C charging • Still works perfectly after a full year of use Cons: • Would be nice if it came in a few color options (just for fun) • Not the cheapest tail light out there—but worth every cent for the reliability ⸻ Final Thoughts The OLIGHT RN 120 C is everything a rear bike light should be: bright, dependable, and thoughtfully designed. After a year of consistent use, I can confidently say it’s one of the most important pieces of safety gear on my bike. Combined with OLIGHT’s usual top-tier build quality, it’s a no-brainer. If you’re serious about being seen on the road, or just want a rear light that works every time, this is the one. Another win from OLIGHT—I’m a proud fan for good reason.

Compact and well designed
To be honest, the main reason I bought this light was because of the saddle rail mount system. It proved to be useless because unless you run your seat all the way back on the rails, the mount is too narrow to fit. The seat rails run further apart toward the back of the saddle and the seat rail mount does not have an adjustable width. My saddle is exactly in the middle of the rails, a very common position, and the light mount is way too narrow to affix to the seat rails at this position. However, there is a strap mount that attaches to the seatpost and it works fine. It is similar to Garmin style mounting where the light affixes with a quarter turn and removes with a quarter turn. No need to unstrap the mount to remove the light. The angle of the mount is not adjustable but it seems to hold the light so that is faces parallel to the ground. As for the light itself, it is very bright and has multiple modes that can accommodate any riding condition, day or night. The light is very small and compact and the case seems very rugged. A couple of very nice design features that should aide in the longevity of the light are that the on off power button is on the top of the light, out of the line of spray that riding in wet conditions will throw at the light. Secondly, the charging port is cleverly located in the center of the mounting ring at the back of the light. Again, this provides additional protection to keep water spray from getting into the port and damaging the light. The rubber port cover seems to fit very snug and secure as well, also providing good protection. These are all areas where the Cygolite Hot Shot that I have used in the past fall short. The buttons on the Cygolite are located on the front of the light, right in the line of water spray and the charging port is on the bottom of the light, again totally unprotected from spray. Those lights are twice the cost and don't last very long if you ride in wet conditions. The Olight design is much better and should not suffer the same issues as the Cygolite. I use the light mostly in daylight flash mode and the battery life seems to be very good, 5+ hours. Overall the light performs exceptionally well and is thoughtfully designed to provide a long service life with ease of use. I've tried many lights over the years, most costing far more, but this Olight is the only one I would recommend. It is a far better value for money and performs better in daily use.
