Fantastic book, glorious walks, very clear and precise instructions
Fantastic book, bought to use on our recent trip to the lakes. Detail and directions very clear and precise, ranging from shorter walks to longer walks. The 3 walks we did were absolutely fantastic and didn't disappoint, would definitely recommend !!!!!

Ideal guide for someone who has never been here!
These walks cover the whole of the lake district and most of them are well known, (Cat Bells and High Raise for instance), however, I found this to include some areas I have not visited and look forward to on our family holiday. This is clearly laid out with good maps, however, I would recommend taking relevant maps, compass and whistle and other survival items as the Lakes can be very unforgiving and can change weather in less than an hour.

Some great looking routes
Really looking forward to using this book as the routes sound great and hopefully won't have issues following them as the maps and directions seem clear enough. There isn't much indication on how advanced the routes are which would have got the 5* so I am going to assume they are OK for most people of good health and fitness.

Good variety of walks to choose from
I used this book extensively on my first trip to the lakes and completed about 5 walks in the book. The instructions and map were relatively easy to follow but I did need my phone here and there as some words like "knoll" escaped me. Overall, I liked it. Its easy to carry during a hike. I felt safer as i did not need my phone for directions if i had the book. If i became a regular at the lakes then i would buy a big map and to be more adventurous.

Walks OK - but limited pics, no GPX, not as easy to select walks as online
We've visited the Lakes for walking a few times, but were trying to increase our level of ambition whilst being sensible. Have used various online sources for walks before, but this has good reviews so thought we'd give it a try.I can't give a review for all the walks as we haven't done them all. We did a couple from here (Loweswater and Borrowdale) and others from elsewhere. In terms of the book itself - meh, it's OK, but seems from another age. I always route plan walks on an app (Viewranger, OS Maps etc) and then carry paper map as a backup. The book contains small versions of the relevant OS map section which may be adequate, but there are then only a few GPS waypoints on the route rather than anywhere to get a GPX of the route. The descriptions are very wordy giving details of "turn left at the second gate" etc. That may or may not suit you. I prefer to have a route on my phone rather than hauling a book out (potentially in the rain). There's some interesting commentary on the routes in terms of history and geology - perhaps the best added value of this book compared to routes found elsewhere.Very few pictures so harder to get any real sense of the walks or whether they are worth doing. By way of example, the Loweswater walk is excellent, but if I go to Andrewswalks (Google it), I can find open the walk in OS Maps and see oodles of great pictures all the way round the walk as well as a 3D flythrough. This badly needs a companion site from the OS, but (and it pains me to say it having grown up loving OS maps) like so much of what they are doing they just don't seem to get how to pull all of this stuff together into a good experience for users. The other negative is that the book is organised by some sense of walking time. That's OK, but we would have preferred a way to select walks based on distance and ascent. Harder to do in a book than online with filters, but a cross reference table could help.

Good introduction to Lake District Walking
A good selection of day walks in the Lake District. Some are excellent. The navigation is clear and simple but you'll need a compass.
