None but the best.
Nostalgic look back at the best instrumental group ever. No one else has been able to put on a three hour plus concert of their works and still have fans young and old wanting more. It also proves you don't have to have music blasted out at earsplitting volumes for it to be appreciated. Modern bands try to make up for lack of ability with ever increasing volume - thankfully never the Shadows.

The Shads in glorious high definition!
The Final Tour by The Shadows is a live performance that has been milked to death by the record company. Anyone who is a fan of the band has likely picked up the double CD or DVD by now. I can't argue against it, it's a truly fantastic performance. But after years of listening to it, I discovered that there is actually a pretty nice looking bluray version of the show and here we are.For those who do not know. The Final Tour was originally released in 2004 through Eagle Records. It was a double disc live album featuring FORTY TWO of The Shadows' hits from their entire career. This includes all the fan favourites but has nice editions like Equinox V, Lady of the Morning by Marvin, Welch and Farrar as well as a nice cover of Going Home (Theme From Local Hero), a song originally recorded and released by Mark Knopfler of the band, Dire Straits. Both the CD and DVD are mandatory purchases for fans of the band but so is this bluray. When this transfer popped up, I was a bit surprised. You'd think a performance of this magnitude from such a legendary band would be more readily available. As it is, it took me a while to get a copy but it was worth it. If you've seen the DVD, you know it's a very professional looking performance and the band look great on stage. Well, just take that performance and make it sharper, clearer and what we've all come to expect from high definition television. It's a very nice upgrade to the old DVD.The visual quality aside, it's also a very nice sounding disc. The band are tight, not missing a note at all throughout the lengthy set list. The surround sound tracks aren't too loud and been mixed well. Cranking this disc up in the home theatre sounds fantastic, even better than the other Cliff Richard & The Shadows bluray I bought. The separation between Hank and Bruce's guitars is heavenly for the musicians wanting to hear what is going on with the upmost clarity. The bass is sits nicely in the mix alongside Bennet's drums, equipped with a lovely tone and a suitable amount of depth.I don't know if this bluray will ever become more available or if the price will ever drop. But if you're going to keep an eye on it and have a lucky moment where it does, absolutely buy it. This is future proofing a legendary band at their peak. The picture is fantastic and the audio is superb. It's worth that extra effort.

Hank still rocks!
Fantastic to see and hear The Shadows on Bluray. The guitars still sound as fantastic as when I used to listen to the LP on head phones -20 Golden Greats as a child in the 70's.Its a shame about the poor sounding synth, instead of violins. These awesome 60's hits deserve a proper string quartet, instead of a guy playing a naff sounding keyboard. Are violinists too expensive these days?.

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT
I always liked The Shadows and saw them in concert several times so this blu ray was a must have as it was their final tour,Outstanding performances from the entire band and the banter between Hank and Bruce is funny.

The Definitive Recording of The Shadows at Their Best
Having previously owned the DVD version of 'The Final Tour' and virtually worn it out through constant playing, I grasped the chance to purchase the Blu-ray, when it first appeared in 2010.Needless to say, I have played it many times since, usually extracting favourite tracks from the well-organized menus, but also playing it in its entirety on occasion.I have to say that the quality of the DVD was very good indeed, both in terms of the content of the performance and the quality of picture and sound. However the Blu-ray did add another dimension to the crispness of visual detail and the excellence of the sound and it looks particularly stunning on my 50 inch Panasonic plasma television. To me, this performance shows The Shadows at their very best and represents excellent value-for-money in terms of the length and quality of the production, which has been superbly committed to disc. For the true Shadows fan, in my opinion, this is the definitive recording, which serves as a perfect reminder of their repertoire over a lifetime.
