OmronM2 Basic Blood Pressure Monitor

My doctor says my blood pressure is borderline high and will need to put me on medication if it can't be lowered naturally. To avoid medication I am trying to lower it by changing diet and getting a bit more exercise so I bought the Omron M2 to monitor my blood pressure myself rather than having to go to the doctor's each time. It has been absolutely brilliant! It was delivered very promptly and took me about 5 minutes to put in the batteries, scan the easy to read booklet and take my first reading. It is really easy to operate. My first reading was in line with the one taken by my doctor (allowing for the fact that you should add 5 to the reading, as advised by my doctor, to be comparable with the reading from the mercury based monitor the doctor uses). In the month since I have noticed the readings slowly starting to drop as I have cut right down on salt, etc., which is great from my point of view. I now take and record 3 readings a day and will take these with me when I next see the doctor to discuss progress. So, a great device, at a really good price, that is easy to set up and use and provides a reading whenever you want one without the inconvenience of having to go to the doctor's each time. I highly recommend it.

This is a really nicely made unit, with quality components, and even comes complete with batteries (4xAAA). It is roughly 11x13x6cm in size, and reassuringly solid. The manufacturers claim that a fresh set of batteries should last c.300 readings before needing replacing.Once the batteries are in, you just put the cuff on your arm (over light clothing is fine), tighten it up firmly, and press the start button. It quickly and surprisingly quietly inflates the cuff, and then gradually deflates to take the readings. The whole process takes just over 30s. It's fast, discreet, and accurate, and at the current price (GBP 17) there's nothing whatever to criticise - a cracking little unit and great value.Why monitor blood pressure? Even if there is no cause for concern, blood pressure is a key 'vital sign' and keeping an eye on it from time to time is a good way to monitor general health, good or bad trends, and encourage lifestyle improvements (more fruit & veg, less booze & salt, more exercise). It can provide reassurance if the readings are good, or identify potential issues before they become sufficiently serious to necessitate a trip to the GP / A&E / RIP! However, self-diagnosis or treatment of any 'abnormal' results is not to be advised as that really is a job for the professionals.Some individuals see non-typical or 'false positive' results, known as white-coat hypertension, when blood-pressure measurements are taken by a doctor or in hospital. This may be driven by nerves or stress linked to the clinical environment, and the ability to monitor your own blood pressure at home in a less worrying environment may affect the diagnosis. This should always be discussed with your doctor, and with their agreement it may prevent unnecessary treatment. In addition to false readings caused by 'white coat syndrome', one needs to be aware of potential inaccuracies caused by attractive GPs (Clooney-Roberts syndrome) or nurses from the Benny Hill school of medicine (fishnet fever). I have no experience in this area, but am willing to submit to medical research if that would help. Until then, this is a very impressive, top quality monitor that does the job well and is highly recommended.

This is a simple to use basic blood pressure monitor for home use. It is delivered with batteries for immediate operation but no carry case - keep that in mind when making your purchase! The blood pressure cuff is of medium size and if you are of larger size, remember that you might need a bigger cuff which you'll have to buy separately.Operation is very simple - there is only a single button, pressing which begins the measurement process. The device is very quiet and indicates function by a blinking icon on the large display - there is no beeping or other noises. At the end of measurement, it announces current pulse rate and blood pressure readings.Please remember that while this is a quality product from a good maker, it is also a very basic product - it comes with no memory function or any additional functionalities - hence, you should know what you are buying. People looking for a more detailed analysis as well as for memory storage of past measurements should purchase a more advanced device with more functions. As it is, this is however a well-functioning, easy to use, comfortable device, which might have its uses if you are looking for a basic product.

Perfect. Just wanted a BP monitor for reassurance as I am of a certain age and thought it would be useful to keep an eye on my blood pressure.Used it three times when delivered and it gave around the same reading each time which is also near my last reading at Drs, so I’m confident it’s accurate. Glad I got it.

I have a slow heartbeat, with ectopic beats which can affect the accuracy of automatic BP monitors. My last monitor would not read my BP more often than not and my health practitioner said it was due to this low heart rate etc.This monitor reads it fine most of the time despite the above issues.Good quality. Very clear instructions, nice large screen. A larger cuff might be an extra optional purchase for gentlemen as the cuff is probably better suited to a female arm circumference. Fully tested and recommended by health professionals. Highly recommend for the price

But...what model actually is it??? As per another post on here I also ordered the M2 model as shown on the website. The box said M2, the monitor was marked M2 but the website shows it as the X2! Which is some £6 or so cheaper! The M2 website picture is smaller, more rounded and has blue markings. Two really different models! Amazon really should sort this out!
