Contemplation: Michael Cheval Drawings Hardcover – August 14, 2022

I'm a huge Cheval fan. I have interviewed the man for my webzine, Boomerocity.com. I have two prints that I bought online and I have received a print and his first book from Michael as gifts. I mention all of that in the spirit of full disclosure. This book is a prequel, of sorts, that showcases the images of his sketches while he still lived in Russia and during his early years in the United States. If you love Michael Cheval's work then you really should have a copy of this book in your personal library. I do plan to interview Michael about this book but haven't yet as of this review. You can see my first interview with him on my webzine and can look for the future one there, as well, to see if it has posted yet. The main thing, though, is to buy this book!

This is an amazing book. The book is broken down into 2 parts- The Russian Period (as Michael Cheval was born in Russia) and the USA Period. "Contemplation" is the perfect title for this book as Stanford Apseloff takes us into Michael Cheval's contemplating mind and provides some detail into the drawings Each one really has a story to tell. All of the drawings here are in black and white and really leaves your mind open to find details in the drawings and do some contemplating of your own. I highly, highly recommend this book and I am grateful to have it in my collection.

This is yet another release of a collection great sketches by one of my favorite contemporary artists. Michael Cheval does not disappoint. As it turns out I am proud to own some of the original sketches and prints featured in this book. He is truly a master at his trade.

The book shows how Michael Cheval initiates his ideas for further exploration. His work is thought provoking to say the least. A great book to purchase as a conversation piece or better yet, to expand your mind.

This is a compilation of Michael Cheval's works. An incredible and talented artist. We have all of his books and this is another edition to my library collection of his work. I am a big fan of his talent and have some of his paintings. Can't wait what he is going to come up with next.

We own a number of Micheals paintings and have recently acquired a sculpture so seeing this book I knew it would be the perfect gift for my wife on her birthday.

Michael Cheval is an incredible artist, being an owner of several of his originals in acrylic this medium of charcoal throughout this book is truly incredible!

Should’ve done my research before I bought this. It was made reasonably cheap and very thin not a good value for the money.
