I have been pleased with this external DVD drive so far. It is an attractive and stylish device that feels built to last. I like the design of the product as it allows you to tuck and hide the tethered USB cable. Installation was simple, just plug in and it will do the rest for you. In terms of noise I find it makes the same amount of sound as internal optical drives.I have played music CDs on this optical drive on windows 10 and on a mac book and have had no issues. On windows laptops you can right click the drive and eject it from my computer and on mac books you can drag it to the eject sign to eject the drive without physically pressing the button.I haven't had a chance to burn any CDs so am unable to comment on this function.Overall a good product performing as required.

This DVD Drive is brilliant. I have Windows 10, and it seemed unclear whether this would be compatible with my laptop, or not. Anyway, it worked fine immediately - just plug and play. This enabled me to load up my old copy of Office 2010, which saved me having to subscribe to the latest Office version and saving me well over £100. It also allowed me to load the software disc for my old Canon MP540. This copier would copy with my new Windows 10 laptop when plugged in, but I could not use the scanner on this and I could not download a new driver as it was discontinued. However, after loading the software all is now fine, and this saved me having to buy a new Printer. Best invest for a long time.All in all I am very pleased with this item, and would highly recommend.

To boil it down I'll give pros and cons first:Pros:-Cheap.-Works really well for the job, reads DVD's a treat.-Design is nice, I have a black desktop computer and this sits unobtrusively ontop.-USB hides away inside of the Device.-portable size.Cons:- Plastic exterior shall isn't the highest quality in the world.- Short USB cable means it has to be located very close to the device, which isn't usually a problem for myself but might me in certain use case where a computer's USB ports are located in harder to reach places.My use case for this product was I needed something to read my DVD which would help me learn to drive. The product did it's job and I can easily watch DVD's on it. Overall it's great value, stylish enough, and simply works. Can't comment on the longevity of the device but for a quick fix it's a no brainer. If you're looking for a more permanent solution maybe seek something with a metal housing that may last longer and be more durable when being taken on the go.

hi not one usually for reviews, but as i bought the unit based on reasonable reviews thought i should add my thoughts.the unit arrived very quickly, well packaged. took out of box and plugged the cable into old laptop running windows 10.this does have a dvd drive already but its gone on the blink. this unit worked straight away, totally plug and play and have spent a fair bit of time this afternoon ripping some cds. Which is what i wanted it for. It works, its cheap, whats not to like!

This DVD drive is not optimised for use with a Macbook. The drive is hard to connect to a Mac without shutting down and carrying out a SMC reset first. Once connect the drive is recognised but does not burn to disk without freezing, and this is the same for copying a music CD to iTunes for instance. This might just be the case for a newer Macbook that only has a Thunderbolt port and no other ports such as mine (this was using a genuine Thunderbolt to USB adaptor) . Due to this I have had to return the drive for a refund.I did try DVD drive on a windows PC on which it appeared to work flawlessly, although when spun up to full speed there is quite a bit on noise.My star rating is based on my experience for use with a Macbook, which it is advertised as being compatible with. This appears to work well with a Windows based computer and I would rate it 4 stars with regard to Windows, and would have been 5 stars if the drive was quieter in use.

This drive only works when connected to the USB on the front of my (brand new) PC even though the instructions say connect it to the sockets at the rear. When connected to the rear USB sockets, the LED flickers but it shows no sign of life!This is not ideal as it is now in the way with the very short lead provided. Another external drive works perfectly when connected to the USB sockets at the back so I know it's not the PC itself.

I only ordered this to rip a few DVDs for old BBC shows that I have on DVD but you can't easily find on streaming services (Operation Good Guys, Grass, Swiss Toni to mention a few) along with music from local bands from whom I've bought their CDs over the last 20 years. It has worked great so far, I've only ripped about 20 DVDs and 30 CDs but it does exactly what it should for the price.My one complaint is the length of the cable. It's about 8cm and It assumes you have a PC that can rest the DVD drive on top of it. Depending on the location of your USB ports, this may not be possible and I had to use a USB extension cable.

I have a old laptop with windows xp I had lots of photos on it but it only works with CD-R my new laptop only works with flash drive this little device aloud me to download all my photos from my old laptop to my new laptop I’m very pleased with this little device as it was under £ 20.00 this means I have all my photos on my new laptop.Happy with this A.J.V.

Ich habe mir ein neues Notebook gegönnt, in dem aber leider kein CD Laufwerk integriert war. Da ich aber doch gerne Dateien, die ich auf CD gebrannt habe, einlesen möchte, habe ich mich für das externe CD Laufwerk entscheiden.Das Laufwerk lässt sich einfach einstecken und kann ohne Treiberinstallation und externer Stromzufuhr genutzt werden. Dies ist mir wichtig, da ich keine große Geduld bei technischen Dingen habe und auch nicht überall Steckdosen vorhanden sind. Mit meinem Notebook arbeitet das Gerät schnell zusammen. Auch das Brennen von CD's ist ohne Vorkenntnisse möglich. Zudem ist eine Gebrauchsanweisung im Lieferumfang enthalten, die eventuelle Fragen klären kann.Durch die Maße von 14,2 X 14,2 X 1,8 cm und dem leichten Gewicht von 400 Gramm kann das externe Laufwerk auch gut mit in den Urlaub genommen werden, um dann Filme bzw. Musik abzuspielen.Mir gefällt dieses Laufwerk, da es einfach in der Bedienung ist und zudem auch preislich angemessen ist. Das Design ist schlicht und einem Arbeitsgerät angemessen.
