Last Night at Chateau Marmont: A Novel

Excellent read
No this book is not like "Devil Wears Prada"....and it's not supposed to be! This story is about a younger married couple struggling to adjust to newfound fame and the challenges their marriage will face. Loved the authors take on Hollywood; hilarious scenes. Totally relatable and likeable characters; we should all have a best friend like Nola...Thoroughly enjoyable read.

Light, well paced and entertaining.
Wonderful dialog and nicely developed characters pull you into this light fun read and create subtle suspense to keep you turning the pages. Lauren Weisberger does an excellent job of showing the ups and downs that play out in a marriage when one partners catapults to stardom. She breathes life into her characters first by revealing their feelings and letting readers into their thoughts, then by creating realistic circumstances and surrounding her protagonist with quirky, but believable friends and family to interact with. Although the book is about a couple, the center of it all is Brooke and how she comes to terms with the new dynamics of her life and marriage after her husband becomes a rock star. Initially she clings to old and comfortable and lives somewhat in denial. But not for long. As the momentum builds her life in the fast lane starts feeling authentic, complete with paparazzi, jet set parties, outrageous designer clothes, uncompromising pictures appearing in tabloids and of course temptation at every turn. If you like reading gossip magazines and always wanted the inside take on the celebrity life, you'll love this book. It's also a good read for those that enjoy a light emotionally engaging read.

Behind Every Successful Man is a Strong Woman
I read and liked The Devil Wears Prada and then as soon as Everyone Worth Knowing came out, I read it and was disappointed, so I'm not sure what prompted me to read Last Night at Chateau Marmont--other than the fact that I wanted something light to read during the hectic Holiday season. I really am surprised I liked this book as much as I did; the story line is quite simple and light, perhaps even too Chick Lit-y at times, but for what it was, it was still an enjoyable read. Even weeks later, I'm still wondering how things turned out for Brooke and Julian.Julian Alter is a singer/songwriter with a passion for his art, his wife Brooke has always supported and loved him, even working two jobs while he gets a gig here and there. Julian is finally "discovered" at one such gig and so begins the roller-coaster ride. One minute he's in a smokey club, singing his heart out to his wife, and the next minute he's picked up by Sony and given a lucrative record deal. The problem is that neither Julian nor his wife are equipped to deal with sudden fame. So, of course both of them struggle with it, each very much on their own and in very different ways. As the reader, I felt like I was watching a movie--I was removed from these characters' lives, but I still liked them and hoped for the best. I prefer more serious fiction and I love books by Chris Bohjalian and Jodi Picoult, but if you're in the mood for a take-on-vacation/fluff read, this one will more than fit the bill.

Another solid Weisberger read
Brooke has spent the last several years of her life supporting her musician husband as he's worked his way towards a recording contract. Now he has one, and it looks like he's about to rocket towards stardom. But possible rock star status and a potential new life changes things, and Brooke starts to doubt what is going on. Is her husband as loyal as she thinks? Can she handle being the wife of a red-hot musician, knowing that fans will be throwing themselves at her husband? Will her own daily life stay the same - and will it be enough, or will she be expected to change that, too?"Last Night" is about the bumpy road to sudden success after a career of struggling, and how things can evolve into something new without losing sight of the past. I really enjoyed this read.

The Fame Game: Rock Star Edition
Imagine that your husband is a talented yet struggling musician. You hold down two jobs to support him and go to all of his gigs. Both of you hope, pray, and plan for the day when he finally makes it big. And then, after years of sweat and heartache, he does. And all heck breaks loose. That's the story of Brooke and Julian Alter in Lauren Weisberger's Last Night at Chateau Marmont. No sooner has Julian finished his showcase performance than he's whisked away to LA. There are interviews, parties, and photoshoots, and at first, Brooke wants to be part of them all. But as Julian's life begins to spin out of control, complete with regular appearances in the gossip rag Last Night at Chateau Marmont, Brooke remains rooted in NYC. Living on separate coasts is painful -- and seems to seal their fate as a couple.Or does it? Because as bigheaded as Julian can sometimes be (there were times when I wanted to strangle him!), deep down he's still the sensitive songwriter that Brooke fell in love with. He still pukes before playing for a huge crowd and calls her by his pet nickname, Rook. This isn't just a story about marriage -- it's a story about marriage and skyrocketing into the celebrity stratosphere. After all, Weisberger wrote The Devil Wears Prada; her wheelhouse is exposing the ugly insides of glamorous industries. And why not? It's fascinating to witness what stardom can do -- and if it's possible to remain true to yourself while trending.Rife with early aughts references, Last Night at Chateau Marmont (which was published in 2010) takes on the eponymous Hollywood hotel, along with its legendary notoriety, and turns it on its head. Because back in the day, rock stars' wives were seen and not heard, but modern love may be more balanced.Sounds like a hit song to me.

Excellent service! Ok book.
This review is more for the seller I purchased from, Ameen books and Amazon delivery. I am very pleased with the condition of the book even though it's a used one. And Amazon delivery was prompt and hassle free. Now about the content of the book - it's an ok read from Lauren Weisberger. Do not expect anything on the level of devil wears Prada and you won't be disappointed.

Liked it a lot!
Personnally, I liked this book better than some of this author's other ones. The characters are less shallow and one dimentionnal, and the story is more geared toward real human realtionships than fashion and glitz. The people are easy to like and relate to, and the situations are mostly believable. And it didn't end like I thought it would. I enjoyed it toroughly. A good read!
