Can you put the controller down without the paddles being pressed?

Yes, but you can't set the controller down on the charging dock without removing the paddles. If the charging dock is in the case, you have to remove the paddles to put the controller in the case.

does this work with the elite series 1?

No. The elite series 1 and 2 have different attachments for thumbsticks. CANNOT INTERCHANGE. However, paddles .... from both will swap.

Does the controller fit on the charging dock with these paddles on?

No. Have to remove the paddles in order to fit on the dock.
