Newbie Harpist Review
The media could not be loaded. I used to play the piano- as a child- and decades ago I took guitar for extra credit in high school. Once upon a time I used to be able to read sheet music, not anymore. I always struggled with tuning a guitar, now they have apps to help you with this kind of thing. My sister bought us all ukuleles a short time ago...so I figured, why not a harp? This instrument uses quality materials and has been polished completely smooth. There is weight to it, and the metal parts fit tight with no looseness. I don't mind that it didn't come with a case, my guitar certainly didn't. I hadn't considered how its unique shape might make finding one a challenge, though. Still, I find this harp absolutely beautiful, and its rounded shape smooth and comfortable to hold. If I can't find a case I'll just make one. It has 15 strings, more than even a classical guitar, and is tuned to a C scale. It comes with an extra string- but nothing to tell you which string it is. It also comes with sawdust, apparently if the pegs start slipping you pour a little sawdust in the hole. If that happens, I'll be looking for instructions on the internet. It also comes with a tool you use to tune the strings. The instruction book is okay, but not comprehensive. It does a good job of telling you what to expect when tuning, gives fingering instructions and how to hold it, and has some melodies. However, the melodies are only marked with finger numbers- I assume- not notes or specific strings, so I found it useless to follow. I see sticky colored dots and you tube tutorials in my future lol.The book suggests a tuning app you can download from google play. After reading the less than stellar reviews on it I found a better one. You'll be hard pressed to find one specifically for harps, but any one that has a "chromatic mode" will do. You can tune any instrument with one of those. Not gonna lie, tuning it the first time was hard. The book said to expect it, but I wasn't really prepared for how much. I don't remember my guitar being that difficult even with new strings- but that was so long ago maybe I forgot. Be prepared to spend a half hour or more tuning and re-tuning until the string holds the note. And you don't need to turn the tool very far at all, sometimes just millimeters. The app I got gave a good tip, if you're just slightly higher in pitch, gently pull the string a little to get it to pitch down a fraction. Saves you from having to loosen and tighten up all over again.Once I finally got it properly tuned- it sounds awesome! Like I said, the instructions are lacking in some areas- but the instrument itself is gorgeous and sounds absolutely beautiful. The materials and workmanship are quality, and I couldn't be happier.

A nice novelty item, but....
I originally wanted this Lyre Harp as I collect and play lots of instruments, I figured I wouldn't likely play it all that often, so it would be a nice novelty item I could hang somewhere in my room, however for whatever reason I cannot seem to get it to stay tuned, after spending dozens of minutes tuning it, many strings immediately go out of tune, and it becomes unplayable.Apart from the tuning issue, its very well made, sturdy, and is a nice looking novelty item. It is seemingly made out of plywood, which is only apparent from the side.I really wish I could get this thing to stay in tune, its actually such a cool item.

Lyre brand is Hluru Harp, fun to play, comes untuned, 1 spare string, no case
This moon lyre harp from Hluru Harp looks beautiful and is a fun and fairly easy instrument to start playing. It comes untuned though and felt a little difficult to tune in the beginning.A wooden string tuner is included plus instructions on tuning the lyre, but the tuning pegs were tight and hard to turn. While tuning, one of the high strings broke, and the set only comes with one extra string. A small bag of wood shavings is also included. I haven't used them yet but I assume these are for tightening the tuning pegs.In the beginning, you may find that the strings easily fall out of tune, but this is normal for a new instrument like this. Give it a few days of playing and retuning to work the instrument. I found it easier to tune after first loosening the pegs a little, then tuning up. I used DaTuner, the chromatic tuner app recommended in the instruction booklet, to tune it to C major. After only a few hours of playing, this lyre harp is able to stay in tune well.It comes with small silicone caps in red and blue. These are markers that go on the tuning pegs to mark the C and F notes when tuned in C major. These are helpful for your visual reference when learning the notes on the lyre. On this 15 string lyre, there will be 3 C notes in C major tuning.Expect to tune the strings depending on what song you are playing. There are a few songs presented in the instruction booklet. It also tells you how to hold the lyre and techniques for playing. You can play the lyre with one or two hands. You can hold the lyre or just having flat down on a table when playing. The rounded design of this lyre makes it a little harder to balance it on my lap when playing, but it includes a rubber anti-slip pad that sticks to the bottom of the lyre, which is actually very helpful. This set doesn't come with a stand or bag to store the lyre. I wish it came with a case since the unique moon design and rounded shape is hard to stand up or find a 3rd party case for. It would also be better if the lyre came tuned and included a full set of spare strings. Other than that, the quality of this moon lyre harp is good and it's a fun instrument to play for experts or beginners.

Its not a serious musical instrument but a nice novelty if you're into that sorta thing.
First. my skill level. I have never played a harp before but I used to play the piano and a stringed instrument so I knew how to tune, the notes, etc. I am not a complete amateur but more of a novice I suppose. It is not playable out of the box because of course it will come out of tune, you gotta tune it yourself. It is fairly difficult to tune because you are turning what is essentially screwed into the wood, so its very hard to turn. the pegs. The sound is actually alright, on par with something like a melody harp, but there wont be much projection. You can get 2 octaves, C to C, on it. Not a lot of range but its workable for some little songs. Playing the harp is very intuitive, I didn't really look at the instruction booklet included apart from peeking at the tuning page for confirmation. The wooden part of the harp is solid wood, not hollow. Its got quite some weight to it and the moon shaped design means it will slide terribly despite the anti-slip sticker it comes with. If you really want to maximize use of this harp consider a different shape (if its offered).I am only giving it 4 stars because of the following reasons:1) It is a good toy rather than a serious instrument, but keeping it tuned requires actual musical skill that the target audience may not have. if you just want to play around and have no experience/patience for tuning I recommend just getting a melody harp (brand name)2) It does not come with a case or a way to hang it up, and so will be very difficult to store, in part due to its shape3) When I opened the box, I found a weird grey pellet at the bottom of it and it grossed me out.

This instrument is very unique
This instrument is constructed completely out of multi-ply plywood and has a nice finish applied to it. The instructions for the harp are absolutely horrible but you can figure out pretty quickly what it is that you have to do with it. The tuning tool works well but the pegs are quite difficult to turn and it takes a long time to get the harp tuned up. As you tighten the strings, the tension on the harp's moon shape increases which loosens the strings that you have already tuned. It doesn't take much to put the strings out of tune while turning the tuning tool so go slow. You will have to tune it several times to get anywhere close to having this thing in tune. It comes with some rubberized covers to go over certain tuning pegs but I couldn't find anything in the instructions as to where they are supposed to be placed. It looks like they might go on the octive notes such as every C and every F. The harp takes some getting used to and although I have never played a harp before, it has been a fun learning adventure. The sound quality of the metal strings is fair but the sound projection is a little weak. Any clamp on tuner will work just fine when tuning this harp and all in all, it's a pretty well made and fun instrument.
