Solid wood handle, extra sharp, nice look and feel, thick spine and a little heavy.
Comes packaged really nice if you were wanting to give it as a gift. The handle is solid wood and an octagon shape. Its comfortable but not the most comfortable knife I have. Its sharp and has held its edge very well so far but the spine is a little thick and its a little heavy for what I am use to with a chef knifes. It's a great shape and length and for the price point much better than I was expecting. Its a really nice and well made chef nice that would be great as a gift, a starter knife or everyday kind of use if you are use to this style of blade. Check out my photos for a closer look and I hope this helped.

Won't replace my good knives, but will still be a good workhorse in the kitchen.
The knife comes with a nice good edge on it -- though the tip of my knife has a little burr on it -not a huge deal. The blade is heavy, which can be good for cutting some things, but it can get a little tiring to use over time for just chopping vegetables.I find the handle fairly comfortable to use-- it's a good size that doesn't cramp your hand and its hexagonal shape just seems easy to adjust your grip as needed. For the price, it's a pretty showy piece and could fill a niche in a knife set

For the price you can’t go wrong
This is a Japanese style Nakiri knife which is basically a light cleaver.Cleavers are absent in many kitchens and that’s a shame because once you have one you’ll use it all the time. You don’t swing this blade as if it were a hatchet. It’s not meant for chopping through heavy bone like you might see in a butcher shop. This blade is meant to slice, not chop and its wide, heavy blade will make quick work of processing fruit, vegetables and meat. The blade is razor sharp but it’s made out of carbon steel which means it can rust if you don’t take care of it properly. So, no throwing it in the dishwasher.Wash it by hand, dry it immediately and put it away wherever it is that you store your kitchen blades and it’ll last you a long time.I’d prefer if it were stainless instead of carbon steel and I’d prefer it to have a full tang instead of a weaker stick tang. But this is still a good blade and those are minor issues, particularly when you consider its low price.Put one of these in your kitchen and see what you’ve been missing.

A pretty decent knife for under $20
The first thing I noticed when this knife arrived was that the packaging was really impressive for a knife at this price. I guess I was expecting a lot less.It arrived sharp. Not super razor sharp but just as sharp as most kitchen knives. I washed the shipping oils off and started straight away chopping chilis, tomatoes, onions, even thinly shaving garlic cloves. And it did the trick. The knife is not balanced well and seem a little light on the handle end, but I adjusted my grip and corrected it. For a meal's worth of chopping and slicing this is not an issue, but if you were cooking for 50 or 100 people I could see where you're wrist might give out. It's not a full-tang blade, so that might explain why the balance is off. And I'm not counting on it being one of those knives my kids will fight over when I'm dead, but I'll be using it regularly. And at this price I may buy a couple more of them as stocking stuffers.

Japanese Nakiri Vegetable Knife
This is an excellent knife. It comes in a fairly nice gift box, which is all cardboard, so nothing too fancy. The knife itself is in a cardboard sleeve and wrapped in plastic. The blade is coated in a food-safe oil to keep it from rusting during shipping. High carbon steel can rust, so you need to take good care of it and not let it stay wet for too long and NEVER run it through the dishwasher. The same can be said for any good knife. The knife is plenty sharp and ready for business. It easily chops though zucchini, some apples and probably any other veggie you can throw at it. The handle is comfortable and it all feels well balanced, for a chopper.

Great knife for chef
This is a professional quality knife, well-balanced and sharp. It feels great in my hand, not too heavy albeit a bit too large for my small hands.

Much nicer than I expected for this price
Nakiri knives make great knives for slicing and chopping vegetable. They are considered safer than other vegetable knives because of their design. They can also be very expensive, because they are often made in Japan. But this Makiri knife is both affordable and functional. The blade is very sharp high quality German carbon steel. This knife definitely has some heft to it, which is a good thing. It feels good in the hand, although the handle shape is different than others I have used. It is not the most ergonomic handle, but it is beautiful and works fine. It comes packaged in a nice box, so it would make a great gift that looks like you spent more than you actually did.
