UPDATE (01/10/20): I received a response on my email to the company and they were very transparent and informative about their coffee, and this is a blend containing 25% Kauai Estate grown coffee! Right in line with my expectations! Was looking for an alternative to a higher priced Maui grown Yellow Caturra blend so I thought I would give this a try. I am very glad that I did as this coffee is up there in my top 3. So far I have brewed it from an Aeropress, pulled straight espresso shots, made cappuccinos, and also cold brewed it for use in my nitro uKeg. It tastes amazing in all options and besides espresso I usually like to add in a little half and half into most brewed coffee but this is one of the few that I enjoy pure black from the Aeropress. Flavor notes and aroma are exactly what I would expect from a Hawaiian coffee as it has bright acidity but is not sour or bitter with floral, nutty, and sweet flavor notes that come through in the Aeropress method. It seems most of the negative reviews here stem from the coffee drinker feel duped by the packaging and marketing of Kauai Coffee Company and maybe rightfully so. I used to work for a private label coffee company and I suspect what they may be doing is using a similar mainland roaster's R&D team for cupping recipes to match the flavor notes, body, and finish of their bean. This would explain how you can get 2 lbs of this amazing stuff for $15 (subscribe and save). Most of the super high volume coffee/fast food franchises will also use multiple roasters reversing engineering the cup and will achieve consistent flavor with this process. I know some people have indicated it doesn't taste as good so maybe Kauian Coffee isn't doing this, or maybe they are and knowing it's a blend we interpret the taste different now? At any rate, I did reach out to them and they have confirmed at least that this item DOES in fact contain their Kauai grown estate bean in it as a blend with other origins. Since a lot of Hawaiian coffees like Kona are 10%, and the Maui stuff I mentioned earlier is also advertised as a blend with Papua New Guinea, I'm fine with it. I'm hoping and it would expect something like this to be more like 25%-35% Kauai bean but who knows, I do like the taste! Suggestion to the company is to disclose the origins of the blends used in addition to a roast date on the package to mitigate these complaints and be on-par with other specialty coffees. But I'm still giving it 5-stars because it is a great overall coffee for all of the different extraction methods and does have Kauai grown coffee in it!

I originally subscribed to Kona coffee because I was impressed with the flavor. However, lately, the flavor consistency has been off and different throughout each bag.. The aroma is good. Sometimes the coffee quality is good, but without the consistency, it’s not enjoyable.. I thought I just had a bad bag and to be fair. I did get a bad bag but keep in mind by your beware bad bag good bag you get what you get and you pay the same price either way.. this product is not returnable, but it has proved decent as an odor absorbing material when placed in saucers around the house

After trying various beans from Costco, we keep coming back to this brand. It's smooth, less acidic and has a good coffee flavor. It's a "neutral" coffee and I can make it lighter or darker as needed. The beans are also consistent. I've tried other brands and it seems like each bag is a completely different roast. Overall, I'm really pleased with this brand and will continue to buy.

I'll be honest. The primary reason why I decided I needed to try this coffee is because of all of the negative reviews simply due to the fact that it's not 100% Hawaiian coffee. I guess I didn't see anywhere on the package that claimed that to be the case. I also know that Hawaiian coffee is expensive, and I've finally found that the best Hawaiian coffees work best as a blend. So with that out of the way, I will say that the one thing that I was really dissatisfied with here is the freshness. I used to be able to get fresh coffee on Amazon. Over the last two years or so, that has changed. The "use by" date on the bag said "021522". I have no idea if that means February 15, 2022, or if it means May 22, 2021. May 22 seems more reasonable, given the fact that I'm not drinking year old coffee, but that would also mean that the coffee was expired when it arrived. Either way, this is a huge concern. My bag will be stale by the time it's 1/4 gone. The first cup tasted okay, which leads me to believe that this is probably a pretty good coffee when it's fresh. That, combined with the fact that they don't offer a light roast, will prevent it from going above 3 stars. The initial hit when taking a sip is definitely bright. I can taste the floral notes. It's tough to elaborate beyond that. I was looking for smoky, something that I typically find in Kona coffee, and it wasn't there. The lingering effect, though, loses its brightness, which is essentially the primary reason why I stick to light roasts. You can't attain "bright" with a dark roast, but you can get halfway there with a medium roast. I've tried this coffee before. Since I didn't leave a review, I can only assume that my impression of it then was also "average". I'm quite certain it was more fresh last time, though, because I would have most certain left a review if it wasn't.
