This is my second pair of Salom shoes and I found them because I have medium width feet bording on narrow if that makes sense. First pair was mid-height hiking boot and fits me great. So I have the Alpha a try instead of buying a new running shoe in to walk. Running shoes don't do well in water. These might fit better then my first pair. No heel slip at all. Walked dog 1.5 miles on sidewalk and they were perfect comfort wise. Not quite as light as a running shoe but close for a walker. This will be my shoe on my European vacation this fall. An all day walker that is ready for rain. This appears to me a perfect shoe for a 4 hour hike as well. If I had a wide foot, I would seek a wide version of these or look at something else.

I’m very much a novice runner, started last year (in retirement) and now run between 1 and 3 miles most days, with personal distance record 8.5miles. These shoes, the gore-tex versions, were bought to replace an identical pair of non gore-tex, that had served me well apart from a worn down tread, after a reasonable use. I didn’t particularly want the gore-tex, but price was good, and cheaper than the non gore-tex so I gave them a try. I wore them first time today, for a 5k run. Absolutely fine from the outset, just like my old ones but a little more firm without the worn out tread, no discomfort at all at 5k. Still not sure if gore-tex is beneficial for running, as I’ve no inclination to recreate the beach scene from Chariots of Fire. One significant advantage did quickly come to light however, when I gave them a wash (I’d ran through a field covered with fertiliser). The old shoes used to quickly get waterlogged inside and out when washed and rinsed. The new ones, with Gore-tex, stayed nice and dry inside - so that’s a plus.

I have the same shoes without the Gor-tex and wanted a replacement, feel, fit and look identical, very happy with them for walking and a little trail running
