This trickle-down, above the tank filter is really great. We have it setup with polishing filters on the top tier and have lava rocks in the bottom two tiers. As the water flows through everything, it becomes oxygenated while keeping the lava rocks wet which allows them to grow the beneficial bacteria the aquarium needs to stay healthy. Overall fantastic purchase and item.
