They do sell ready made screen thingies for doors that do what you want. That said, these are very strong little magnets that easily could be too strong. However if you see in piece of wood or plastic on both sides of magnet like 1/8 inch thick (two popsicle stick thick or a yardstick thick), you could limit the power of the "grab" when it is stuck to another, while still retaining the long- distance force that helps the find each other
