I had one of these when I was younger so knew I wanted to get it as soon as I saw it! My niece (6 years old) *loves* it, and even her brother (who is 9) will put a few designs together. The plates are great quality, and you can use any crayon/pencil if/when needed - it does come with some. It does also come with paper, you can easily cut more when needed.I really like that you can also use the board as a stand (and storage), my niece likes to show off her designs!This is a really fun thing for all of us to spend some time doing, I highly recommend it!

Our 8 year old granddaughter loves this kit. Great Christmas gift. Keeps her busy and off the screen.

My 8 year old loves to make clothes for her barbies, and draw new outfits so i thought she would love this. Her initial reaction was excitement, but in the week since she's been much more eh. The rubbing plates are easy enough, but if the paper moves just a bit, she ends up disappointed because everything is off then. The paper it came with ran out in the first day, so cutting paper to the right size, then tracing, seems to be more work than she wants to do to just color outfits on dolls.As a parent, I feel this is fairly overpriced for the "cheap-feeling" plastic and minimal supplies that comes with it. For the same price, I got my son last Christmas an art set that had tracing light, and far more colors for less money that this is listed for. Included in that set was a storage container. This is lacking that which just adds to the hassle of it. We'll see if she starts to use it some more, but until then, I'm like her on it... it's, eh.

I got this for my niece. This reminded me of a toy that I had as a child and I loved it. My 9 year old niece loved this. So much fun.

My five and seven year old granddaughters learned how to use this toy in a matter of minutes. It is very easy to use. The kit comes with different fashion plates that you put into the holder. Then you place a piece of paper on top of the plates. The kit comes with four black crayons and a crayon holder. All I had to do then was show the girls how to rub the crayon across the paper and the image of the fashion plates shows up. Then the girls were able to use the colored pencils, that came with the kit, to color the pages. The girls had so much fun changing the different outfits and hairdos for the pages to color. This is fun and easy to use for young ones. I think five years old is probably the youngest that would truly be able to use this toy easily. The holder holds the paper in place for tracing. The only problem we had was the five year old had trouble opening the holder. After a few tries she got the hang of it. This is a great toy and will be used a lot.
