Berserk: Season One [Blu-ray]

Real anime and a work of art
Many shows coming from this medium within seinien nowadays are either horrible CGI or just not able to transfer over the gravitas and feeling of the show in a relatable manner, this anime does and as it may be dated, it’s good, rest in price to it’s original created, but at least he left this masterpiece for all of us to enjoy.

Finally something that follows the manga
I watched this on Crunchyroll, then on bluray, now on Amazon. I must admit that I did not like the animation style at first, but it grew on me. People complained a lot about this anime, such as the loud clang sound of the sword, so they toned it back (I loved that sound. Hello, big F'ing sword makes a big sound).Note this storyline takes place after Golden Arc, so watch the movies first. If you watched the original anime, still watch the movies first, since the original anime ended too soon. Though this anime is not as good as the Golden Arc movies, it is still excellent, given the source material (i.e. manga).

Story: A+, Visuals: WTF?
A continuation of the CG style from the recent movie trilogy (cel shaded 3D models trying to look 2D, not the typical flat “computer assisted” of nearly all anime today), I am not overly impressed with the visuals—sometimes you get grand, epic visual presentation that wows, but most of the time you get awkward character movement that come off as overly stiff. The story is still great, and being able to see more than just the Band of the Hawk arc animated yet again is very welcome. I want more of this, if only to relive some of the epic parts of the manga that are yet to come. And with the slowed pace of Miura’s Manga release, any chance to see these characters dulls the pain of waiting (think being a fan of A Song of Ice and Fire, and watching Game of Thrones while waiting for the next book—it’s only a bit faster than that glacial pace).I still say the highest quality Berserk animation is the old TV series (though some of that is nostalgia, I’m sure), but any chance to experience the continuing adventures of Guts and his strange crew is welcome.

A must have for all Berserk enthusiasts!
Berserk is my absolute favorite anime of all time. I was so happy to see a new anime begins to cover new content that only readers of the never-ending manga have got to experience. As much as I love the original anime from 1997, and the Golden Arc movie trilogies, there is so much more content and story that you would only know if you read the manga. This is a solid limited edition Blu Ray collection! Love the exterior art design and the interior has a lot going for it as well. My only criticism would be that I would have loved to see a Steelbook case come as part of this LE, or even codes for a digital download as well.I have seen a lot of reviews posted on Amazon because they "bought/pre-ordered the limited and got the regular" or was missing discs, which is a shame to see but I wouldn't review the product poorly because Amazon screwed up your order. I was able to place a reservation on 1/16/18 for a copy of the LE Blu Ray and was delivered in great condition on release day 2/15/18.

Berserk is back!
Let me start saying that series like this one is what brings 'the best' in people. After the 1st episode was released online, the anime world witnessed the birth of what i like to call 'Hidden Basement Talent'.Scriptwriters, Animators, Directors, Camera operators all came suddenly forward from there basement to judge the series..Anyway if you followed this series then you know what im talking aboutFor me it was a nice welcome. Finally get to see Beyond the golden age arc.Seeing what happened to Casca, seeing puk for the first time and hearing the yet again awesome soundtrack was enough to make me own the Blu ray and go read and start buying the Manga Berserk.Miura himself (creator of the series) wrote an episode which was one of the best of the series.Great LE from Funimation yet again. Can't wait for the 2nd seasonOnly negative i have is the eng language. I would loved to hear the old cast. This adaptation has new voice actors. Not bad but i prefer the old ones

I absolutely loved the original anime from 20 years ago
This more 4 stars for this season and a 5th star for nostalgia. I absolutely loved the original anime from 20 years ago, and while this series is probably meant to follow the 3 movies that have come out more recently, it feels like the season 2 I have been waiting 2 decades for. That said, it won't be everyone's favorite. I think the CGI is inline with the feel and style of the anime but it is very noticeable. The character arc for the main character, Guts, is subtle which is what it is supposed to be from this part of the story line from the Manga. (From what I remember anyway, its been a while) The other characters the are not as engaging as supporting characters from the Band of Hawk. Which brings up the previous movies and series, this season won't stand alone to anyone who has not seen them.

Long time Berserk Fan pleased with direction of series.
The Collectors edition is pretty tight. I bought it on sale and it was worth it. I am glad to support anything Berserk. I have been reading the books for fifteen years. There have been a few takes on creating animated versions and even though recent ones have not been perfect, we still get to experience Berserk in a new way. This is the first Berserk that has been animated this deep into the story. Amazon actually screwed up and had to send me a new one when it showed delivered to an Amazon Box but the code did not work. The company frequently messes up my orders and things get lost, stolen or damaged. I consider Amazon the Wal Mart of online stores.

Has English dub default
While by no means perfect, this adaptation of the amazing Berserk manga has been a long awaited adventure. This Blu-ray DOES COME with English dub as the default setting (I just received and am watching it). The story follows the manga after the Eclipse minus the Lost Children or most of the Black Swordsman. As far as continuing from the Golden Age trilogy, this is a decent adaptation. The animation, however, is definitely the weakest aspect and why I am not a total fan. You do learn to just accept it, but that doesn't change it's less than stellar quality for a long awaited adaptation like this. As for adjustments from the originally aired version, yes there is a noticeable difference that improves the viewing experience quite a bit.

Fantastic but flawed
If you’ve watched berserk the golden age arc movies and have found yourself wanting more, look no further. It’s similar, but following the magna more so than the movies did. However, the animation is very unpolished compared to the movies. Also, because it follows the manga closer it has more of the Japanese anime character tropes you can usually expect, some might find it cheesy or too over the top. That’s all I can think of for negatives. The English voice acting is good, and seems to be suitable for all the new characters that get introduced. I’m looking forward to more.
