That standard can openers won’t work. I like that the wooden handle makes it easier than the metal kind of handles: the wood makes it easier to get a better grip to open the can faster.

So, just to be clear, the product is well-made and works like it's supposed to. That being said, I don't really care for it. I was looking for something more along the lines of a manual can opener with a blade that curves over and punctures downward kind of like a lobster claw, like what you find on the older swiss army knives. I have one of this type that was not a swiss army knife, and was meant for regular use, but it is getting rusty, and I wanted a similar replacement. This one is an even older design and I find it awkward to use, but it is usable. The part of it I least like it that the initial puncturing of the can is awkward and feels unsafe. Add to this, since the blade cuts the top of the can as you lift rather than push down, it's also a bit awkward and most of the times I have used it to open a can, I have deformed the edge of the can as I go around. I imagine I will get better at it with practice, though this is definitely not going to become my go-to can opener any time soon. I am still glad I bought it, because I can tell this can opener would be useful with extremely large cans with a lip too large for your typical can opener in use today. So I say get one, and keep it around for emergencies, but I do not recommend for regular use unless you grew up with this style and are adept at using them due to having plenty of practice.

Even if it is indeed steel, it is so soft that after opening one can it can no longer be used.
