Great look “behind the scenes”
The Wombles have been a major part of my childhood and adulthood, so I was genuinely excited to read the creator’s biography. Little did I know how enthralling it would be. Brilliantly written by her daughter, using extracts from her letters and diaries, you really get a sense of the ups and downs of being a journalist, author, creator, TV script writer (and more) whilst also being a daughter, wife and mother. I had no idea that Liza had been an interviewer and TV star in her own right, so it was fascinating to read all that came before the Wombles. Then to read how (sadly) fame and fortune didn’t make for a totally carefree life, as Liza carried burdens and self-doubt unseen by her many friends and fans. A great story, brilliantly told. Loved it.
