Savory or sweet.
As an alternative to corn grits or even oatmeal this is a great option. I can't eat oats at all because they make my stomach very ill. And I don't tend to do well with much corn either, though I do adore cheese grits! To me these are just as good as grits if you like or want and alternative to that. I love it with eggs, and sausage and mixed together and a little cheese. Just like I used to eat grits growing up. However be mindful they do need salt!!! I honestly don't know how it doesn't taste like rice because it's just ground up rice but it does not taste like rice would if you cooked whole rice and then added it to your breakfast and honestly I don't do too great with regular rice either to be honest. But somehow this works for me. I know I am complicated, but so far I am enjoying this cereal. I want to try a rice pudding with it next. My kids eat it with jam or maple syrup mixed in as well.

It's function adequate brown rice farina. We like it.
We like brown rice farina in our rotation of breakfast foods. Bob's Red Mill was out of stock for a very long time. We tried this. It's perfectly satisfactory. It's brown rice farina. We will buy this or Bob's Red Mill depending on price and availability from now on.Brown rice farina is a nice change from oatmeal. It's easily cooked in the microwave, although you must use a large bowl to cook it because it WILL boil over. It tastes good with butter or cheese or even guacamole. Stir in whatever you like, sweet or savory. It counts as a serving of whole grains.

Hot rice grits cereal
I make mine with soy milk, and I put the cereal in with the milk right away, not when it is boiling which is what is recommended. I find that it softens the grits more when I do that.I do not like it made with water, which is an option. This is my comfort food. I might add stevia or organic maple syrup with it for some sweetness. Pretty basic, but soothing and satisfying.

Creativity improves cereal
Very amusing reviews here, folks either dislike or love this cereal. I suspect the cook's lack of creativity is the main reason some dislike this cereal. Rice is like grits, it's only as good as its additions. My main reason for eating hot rice cereal is because at age 62, I've become gluten intolerant. Eating this cereal eliminated my bloating and intestinal issues, and I'm on the "love it" side. But, I only use half of the rice as recommended in the instructions and although it results in a soupy cereal, I mix in one heaping tablespoon of powdered coconut milk, mixed fruit (fresh or dried) and a heaping tablespoon of my favorite granola. No butter, sweetner or salt is necessary. I also make a large pot of the cereal (5 cups water) which does take some time, but it keeps for 3 more days, and so the next time I have rice cereal, I merely spoon it into a microwaveable bowl, zap it for 3 minutes, then add my condiments and Bob's your uncle.

Yummy Anytime!
I recently purchased this as an alternative to Cream of Rice, which I love. I got this because my body cannot handle all the iron in Cream of Rice....& it no longer is available without all the added iron. This does not have all that iron added! It is grittier & takes longet to cook, but the reward is there if you are a cream of rice person. I cook it longer to soften it. Some people grind it a little more. I have it warm with fresh fruit & Nonfat Greek yougurt. But I may try it with rice or almond milk. A nutty sort of breakfast, I eat it anytime I want a bowl of warmth, not sweet!

I wasn't a fan π!
I was not a fan of the taste! The grains are large. It tastes very "earthy". Sorry, and it was really expensive for such a small bag.

Excellent AFTER modifying cooking directions, especially for high altitude.
These brown rice grits have a nutty and slightly sweet flavor to them. But I would highly suggest modifying the cooking instructions. Add more water (at high altitude I am having to add 25% more but I like grits close to oatmeal consistency, not bread). After simmering for 3 minutes, turn off heat, cover, and wait 7 minutes to finish absorbing water and cooking. Your grits will be much better. Also, be aware that this is a whole grain. It will go rancid much easier than white rice grits.

Takes a while to cook
I like this cereal, but it takes wayyy longer to cook than it says it does on the package. I've been eating it with a touch of brown sugar and some pomegranite arils. Yum! Pretty!
